Rendeavour’s vision goes beyond alleviating what is a self-evident problem – that of stifling urban congestion and a dearth of quality housing and commercial property in Africa. Rather, we aim to help create the infrastructure – the living and working spaces, communities, schools and hospitals – that will help sustain and accelerate Africa’s economic growth, meet the aspirations of Africa’s burgeoning middle classes, and serve as a catalyst for further urban development. Job Description

Role Overview

This role sits inside a 12-week mathematics study, where you will run two 40-minute sessions each week for Grade 7 or Grade 8 learners. Your day-to-day work is to coach learners through an approved Khan Academy pathway using the project’s Common Help Ladder, keeping every interaction short, consistent, and focused on reasoning rather than answers. The position matters because the study depends on clean delivery: learners need meaningful support, and the research team needs sessions that follow the same protocol so findings remain trustworthy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead two 40-minute mathematics sessions per week across a 12-week cycle, completing 24 sessions in total while preserving the timing, pace, and learning conditions set by the study team.
  • Use the Common Help Ladder to provide brief coaching interventions of roughly two to three minutes per learner, so support stays equitable and comparable across participants.
  • Restrict mathematics support to the assigned Grade 7 or Grade 8 Khan Academy pathway, working through the prescribed sequence, including proportional relationships, equations and expressions, linear relationships, geometry and measurement, and other approved topics.
  • Ask guided questions instead of giving direct answers, encouraging learners to reason, self-correct, and solve problems independently.
  • Maintain a positive, inclusive environment that helps learners engage confidently, stay on approved study activities, and feel supported throughout each session.
  • Keep session records accurate using assigned participant research IDs only, and avoid writing names or other personal details into research documentation.
  • Follow all study procedures and operational rules, including not assigning homework, not adding extra lessons, not introducing unapproved teaching materials, and not using AI tools such as Copilot in the teacher-supported study arm.
  • Report protocol deviations, safeguarding concerns, data privacy breaches, technical disruptions, health and safety issues, and other incidents promptly, and collaborate with project leadership and research staff to keep delivery consistent and compliant.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A diploma, bachelor’s degree, or equivalent qualification in education.
  • A specialization in mathematics, science, or a closely related field is preferred.
  • Current Teacher Service Commission (TSC) registration is an added advantage.
  • Demonstrated experience teaching mathematics to Grade 7 and/or Grade 8 learners.
  • A solid grasp of Kenya’s Competency-Based Curriculum, especially Junior Secondary mathematics.
  • Experience supporting learners with varied learning needs and ability levels.
  • Prior involvement in educational programmes, pilot projects, or research studies is helpful but not mandatory.
  • Basic digital literacy and confidence using technology for learning, including the ability to navigate learning management systems, online educational platforms, tablets, laptops, web-based applications, and other digital learning tools.
  • Able to support learners comfortably in a technology-enabled learning environment.
