Role Overview
You will lead a classroom under Kenya’s Competency-Based Curriculum, guiding learners through interactive, skills-focused lessons that go beyond rote memorisation. Working alongside fellow teachers, you will adapt teaching materials to meet diverse learner needs, integrate basic digital tools where they strengthen understanding, and track each child’s progress against CBE assessment benchmarks. Your role matters because you are directly shaping how students think, create, and collaborate at a foundational stage of their education.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver daily lessons aligned to the Competency-Based Curriculum, using learner-centred approaches such as group work, projects, and hands-on activities.
- Develop or source CBE-aligned teaching and learning resources, including simple digital presentations, videos, or interactive exercises that reinforce core competencies.
- Assess learners continuously through observations, checklists, portfolios, and formal tasks, then record and report results accurately to school leadership and parents.
- Identify learners who require extra support or enrichment and adapt instruction, pacing, or materials to help every child progress meaningfully.
- Maintain a safe, inclusive, and well-organised classroom environment that encourages questioning, creativity, and positive peer interaction.
- Participate in school-based professional development, staff meetings, and curriculum review sessions to refine teaching practice and align with TSC and Ministry of Education guidelines.
- Communicate regularly with parents or guardians about learner progress, behaviour, and ways they can support learning at home.
- Uphold professional and ethical standards as set by the Teachers Service Commission, including safeguarding learner welfare and confidentiality.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree from a recognised institution, with a specialisation appropriate to primary or early grade teaching.
- Full registration with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and possession of a valid teaching certificate or practising licence.
- Basic ICT proficiency, including the ability to operate a computer, use educational software or applications, and integrate digital content into lessons in line with CBE resource requirements.
- Understanding of Kenya’s Competency-Based Curriculum, its learning areas, assessment modes, and its emphasis on developing critical thinking, creativity, and communication skills.
- Classroom management experience, whether through teaching practice or paid employment, with the ability to engage learners of mixed abilities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, and ideally Kiswahili, for instruction and parent engagement.
