Job Description

Role Overview

As Manager, Portfolio Analytics, you will run the function that converts raw portfolio data into the decisions leadership actually acts on, from daily tracking of disbursements, collections and arrears through to the forecasts and stress tests that shape where capital goes next. The role blends hands-on analytical work with people leadership, coaching a team of Investments Business Analysts and Graduate Trainees while acting as the connective tissue between investment teams, credit risk, finance, accounting and digital transformation. Done well, this work gives the organisation faster, better-evidenced investment calls and far fewer unwelcome surprises in portfolio quality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct the daily work of a team of Investments Business Analysts and Graduate Trainees: set objectives and performance standards, review deliverables, define quality bars and build development plans that grow analytical talent from within.
  • Monitor and interpret movement across the full portfolio lifecycle, including disbursements, collections, portfolio-at-risk, defaults, write-offs, recoveries and provisioning, then translate the drivers behind those movements into recommendations leadership can act on.
  • Build and maintain forecasting, target-setting and scenario models that show how the portfolio is likely to perform under different growth, business and risk assumptions.
  • Maintain early-warning indicators, concentration-risk monitoring and stress-testing routines, escalating material risks before deterioration turns into losses.
  • Act as the analytical partner to credit risk and investment teams, supplying the data, evidence and modelling that inform underwriting, client selection, collections approaches and mitigation strategies.
  • Own executive-level reporting for internal leadership, Board members, country teams and external partners, converting complex datasets into clear conclusions, forward-looking insight and practical next steps.
  • Design, build and maintain automated dashboards and reporting tools on enterprise BI platforms so stakeholders have reliable, timely, self-service visibility into portfolio performance, risk and strategic KPIs.
  • Partner with the Digital Transformation team and country investment leads on data and systems change, translating analytical requirements into effective system solutions, tightening integration between operational and accounting systems, standardising definitions across countries, and embedding governance, quality assurance and audit-ready documentation.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business analytics, statistics, economics, computer science, mathematics or another quantitative field; a relevant professional charter is an advantage.
  • 4+ years of progressive experience in business analytics, financial analysis, portfolio management or credit risk management.
  • Demonstrated experience managing, leading or mentoring analytics professionals, including junior team members or trainees.
  • A track record of leading technology integration or systems change management projects within a financial or investment environment.
  • Analytical depth in coding-based analysis and tools, with Python and SQL an added advantage, alongside financial modelling, credit risk modelling and portfolio stress testing.
  • Advanced command of enterprise BI and dashboarding platforms such as Power BI, Holistics or Tableau.
  • Working understanding of data pipelines, core banking or investment platform integrations, financial data flows and APIs.
  • Familiarity with project tracking methods, quality assurance practices and workflow documentation tools.

Competencies we look for:

  • Leading teams: aligning people behind objectives drawn from organisational strategy, building a shared sense of purpose, and recognising and celebrating team contributions.
  • Building trust: clarifying responsibilities, tracking results, delegating in ways that create independence, following through consistently and showing genuine care for colleagues.
  • Relationship management: sustaining strong relationships with stakeholders, partners and community leaders while anticipating and balancing competing needs.

What We Offer / Why Join

  • Meaningful work that directly supports sustainable livelihoods and job creation across East and Central Africa.
  • A competitive salary, with the potential for a performance-based bonus.
  • A strong company culture with real opportunities for learning and growth.
  • Diverse colleagues across the region, within policies that demonstrate a commitment to equity and inclusion.
  • A dynamic, entrepreneurial environment that values innovation and social impact.
  • Health insurance for you and your family.
  • Staff savings and provident fund, plus negotiated bank rates for long-term employees.
  • Generous annual leave, parental leave and sabbatical options.
