(CHAI) was founded in 2002 with a transformational goal: help save the lives of millions of people living with HIV/AIDS in the developing world by dramatically scaling up antiretroviral treatment. When CHAI was founded, many viewed this goal as unreasonable because health systems in poor countries were too weak and prices of relevant drugs and diagnostic tests were too high. CHAI played a leadership role, working alongside governments and other partners, to lower the costs of treatment and help build the in-country systems necessary to provide lifesaving treatment to millions of people. Since then, CHAI has pursued several similarly ambitious goals, from scaling up pediatric AIDS treatment in order to achieve equity with adults in a time frame few thought possible, to rapidly accelerating the rollout of new vaccines. Job Description

Manager, AI Diagnostics, Market Shaping

Job Overview

Position Overview

CHAI’s Market Shaping Team is seeking a Manager or Senior Manager to advance CHAI's market shaping activities for a portfolio of artificial intelligence (AI)-supported diagnostics, including AI-enabled point-of-care ultrasound (AI-POCUS) and other tools, to transform diagnostic capability in LMICs.

The Manager, AI Diagnotics will collaborate with CHAI’s global program teams, global cross-cutting functional teams, and country teams as well as external stakeholders to design and execute CHAI’s global supply- and demand-side market shaping strategies for AI diagnostics in LMICs. In doing so, the Manager will build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including global and country teams, governments, donors, normative bodies, implementing partners, research partners, AI and diagnostic companies, and key opinion leaders to coordinate strategy, planning, and execution of interventions.

The Manager should be a highly motivated, entrepreneurial individual with outstanding problem-solving abilities and communication skills who share in CHAI’s mission and values. The individual must be able to function independently, manage a few direct reports, balance multiple priorities simultaneously, have a strong commitment to excellence, and work effectively across a range of stakeholders in a multicultural environment. CHAI also places great value on the following personal qualities: humility, resourcefulness, and tenacity.

This position will sit within CHAI's Market Shaping Team; the specific reporting line will be confirmed at offer stage. This role can be offered at either the Manager or Senior Manager level, commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the candidate. It can be based in the United States or in a CHAI program country, subject to MST and country team leadership approval and ability to obtain work authorization. A minimum 25% of travel is expected for partner, country, and supplier meetings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the design and execution of supply- and demand-side market shaping strategies to increase access to AI diagnostic tools
  • Proactively identify opportunities to shape market dynamics to enhance availability, affordability, and sustainability of key AI diagnostic products needed in LMICs
  • Build and maintain relationships with relevant companies by providing market insights and offering targeted support and guidance to advance product and market readiness for LMICs, including defining target product profiles, advising on access terms, and navigating regulatory and procurement processes
  • Support negotiations with AI and diagnostic companies on pricing and supply terms
  • Cultivate strong relationships with governmental, multilateral, and non-governmental organizations to coordinate access strategy and implementation
  • Liaise with CHAI’s global and country teams to develop the market analysis required to guide market shaping strategy and access negotiations with companies
  • Work with CHAI's global and country teams to build the policy, evidence, and financing case for adoption of AI diagnostics, including evidence generation, guideline development and policy reform, and the design of sustainable financing solutions
  • Support country readiness, product introduction, and scale-up, including implementation design and planning, national registration pathways, workforce, and health systems strengthening, and procurement and supply chain strengthening
  • Work with MST colleagues, other CHAI teams, and external stakeholders to support delivery of complex, multi-stakeholder projects; develop work plans that support market shaping goals and achieve grant deliverables, monitor activities against program goals and donor commitments, identify operational bottlenecks or weaknesses, and work collaboratively with CHAI country and global teams to achieve exceptional results on aggressive timelines.
  • Contribute to fundraising and donor engagement, including proposal development and reporting
  • Build and maintain institutional capacity and facilitate opportunities for knowledge sharing
  • Effectively manage oneself, direct, and/or indirect reports within a matrixed organization
  • Undertake other responsibilities as needed at the request of the team lead or senior leadership

Qualifications
