Role Overview

This position is responsible for carrying out a wide range of diagnostic tests on patient specimens within a busy clinical laboratory. Working closely with the Laboratory in-charge, you will ensure that every sample is processed accurately, results are delivered without unnecessary delay, and all laboratory activities align with established medical and safety standards. Your work directly supports clinicians in making informed treatment decisions, making reliability and attention to detail essential to the role.

  • Receive, label, and register incoming patient specimens, verifying that all patient details and test requests are accurate before processing begins.
  • Perform routine diagnostic laboratory tests across haematology, biochemistry, microbiology, and other relevant disciplines using approved protocols and standard operating procedures.
  • Document and communicate test outcomes clearly and promptly to clinical staff, ensuring that urgent or abnormal results are flagged for immediate attention.
  • Prepare reagents, calibrate laboratory instruments, and conduct daily quality control checks to maintain the accuracy and reliability of all test results.
  • Keep the laboratory workspace clean, organised, and compliant with infection prevention and waste disposal guidelines.
  • Compile routine operational and diagnostic reports, maintaining complete and auditable records for every batch of tests performed.
  • Take part in internal quality assurance activities, including proficiency testing, equipment maintenance logs, and corrective action documentation as needed.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Diploma in Medical Laboratory Science from a recognised training institution.
  • A valid registration certificate from the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board (KMLTTB).
  • A minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience working in a clinical laboratory setting.
  • Solid computer proficiency, including familiarity with laboratory information systems and basic office software for reporting and record keeping.
  • Strong customer care and communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with patients, clinical staff, and laboratory colleagues.
  • A self-motivated, collaborative approach to work, combined with sound judgment and a professional demeanour under pressure.
