Role Overview
This role is an academic teaching and research position within a university department, open to specialists in the stated disciplines. The Lecturer will be responsible for delivering high-quality instruction across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, while also building an active research profile and contributing to the wider academic community through service and engagement. Day-to-day work involves preparing and teaching classes, assessing student work, supervising projects, conducting research, and participating in departmental governance, all of which directly supports the university’s strategic goals of academic excellence, innovation, and community impact.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver lectures, tutorials, laboratory practicals, and fieldwork sessions assigned by the Head of Department, ensuring alignment with learning outcomes and academic standards.
- Design, develop, and update course curricula and individual course units, including the introduction of new programmes where departmental needs require.
- Regularly review and revise teaching materials, reading lists, and assessment methods to reflect current disciplinary developments and best practices in pedagogy.
- Work collaboratively with academic colleagues on programme reviews, curriculum enhancement, and initiatives to improve teaching quality and student success.
- Build an active research agenda by identifying funding opportunities, preparing competitive grant proposals, and carrying out original research in the relevant field.
- Disseminate research findings through publications in reputable scholarly journals and presentations at national and international conferences, seminars, and workshops.
- Engage in consultancy, professional practice, and scholarly collaborations that generate external impact and strengthen the university’s community and industry links.
- Provide academic mentorship, advising, and career guidance to undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as early-career academic staff, and participate in departmental, faculty, and university committees as required.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in the relevant discipline from a recognized and accredited university.
- Registration with, or demonstrable eligibility for registration with, the relevant professional body in the field, where applicable.
- Proven experience in university-level teaching, including curriculum delivery, assessment design, and student supervision.
- A strong commitment to high-quality, inclusive, and student-centred learning environments that support diverse learners.
- Evidence of research productivity, such as peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations, or involvement in funded research projects.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills, with the ability to work effectively in a collaborative academic setting.
- Demonstrated ability to contribute to academic governance, programme development, and community engagement initiatives.
