Role Overview
This entry-level accountant position sits within a Nairobi finance team based along Mombasa Road in South B, reporting to senior finance staff. The person in this role handles the daily posting, reconciliation, and invoicing work that keeps the business compliant and audit-ready. Their accuracy directly affects how quickly customer collections are resolved, how smoothly month-end closes, and whether statutory filings are submitted correctly and on time.
Key Responsibilities
- Enter daily financial activity into the accounting system, covering customer invoices, receipts, supplier bills, and petty cash payments.
- Keep accounts payable and accounts receivable ledgers up to date, following up on outstanding customer balances and reconciling supplier statements.
- Carry out bank reconciliations, petty cash counts, and routine cash flow tracking, investigating and resolving differences.
- Generate eTIMS-compliant tax invoices and maintain electronic fiscal device records in line with Kenyan tax requirements.
- Assist with monthly statutory calculations and filings through the KRA iTax portal, including PAYE, VAT, NSSF, SHIF, Housing Levy, and Withholding Tax.
- Help prepare month-end trial balance reconciliations, journal entries, and ledger adjustments.
- Compile schedules, inventory count records, and supporting documents for internal and external audits.
- File and archive financial records, vouchers, and payment approvals securely in both physical and digital formats.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Diploma or bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, commerce, or a closely related discipline.
- One to two years of practical experience in book-keeping, basic financial management, or general ledger work within a busy environment.
- CPA Section/Foundation level completed or in progress is an advantage.
- Comfortable using Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Word, plus basic accounting software platforms.
- Working knowledge of KRA iTax and eTIMS transaction processing.
- Strong numerical accuracy, close attention to detail, an analytical approach, and the ability to stay organised during month-end pressure.
