Role Overview
This position keeps the technology backbone running across a head-office site, a commissary operation and a widely spread network of retail branches. Day to day, the person in this seat owns the health of workstations, servers, printers, CCTV and UPS equipment, along with the cabling and connectivity that link every branch back to central systems. The role matters because trading, point-of-sale and back-office activity all depend on that equipment staying up, and on faults being caught and cleared before they stall operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Keep hardware, CCTV, printers and UPS units at HQ, the commissary and branch sites available and reliable, restoring service quickly when faults occur.
- Support the commissary's core business systems, its network and internet links, and the connectivity between commissary operations and individual branches.
- Serve as the first escalation point for end users, diagnosing and resolving workstation hardware, software and network problems.
- Deliver scheduled preventive maintenance alongside reactive repairs on workstations, peripherals and other IT equipment.
- Plan desktop hardware upgrades and contribute to new store openings and system rollout projects.
- Install, configure and troubleshoot network equipment, isolating printer and structured cabling faults through methodical testing and diagnostics.
- Maintain an accurate inventory of all IT equipment under this role's jurisdiction.
- Report regularly on application, network and system availability, and compile statistics on branch hardware needs to inform planning.
- Resolve all helpdesk calls and incidents within agreed SLA response times, escalating where appropriate.
Requirements & Qualifications
- B.Sc. or Diploma in Electronics, Computer Science or another computing-related discipline from a recognised university or institution.
- Professional certification such as A+, N+ or MCT/MCITP.
- At least two years of hands-on experience with computer hardware and system software in an environment that includes remote or off-site locations.
- Proven hardware and software troubleshooting ability, with the discipline to work through faults systematically.
- Practical experience with Windows Server 2003/2008 platforms, Active Directory and the Windows XP desktop environment.
- Working knowledge of WAN and LAN technologies, structured cabling, hardware diagnostics, operating systems and EPOS/POS support.
- Confident hands-on skills in troubleshooting printers, POS terminals and cabling.
