Role Overview
This role is centered on delivering high-quality adult medical care within an established healthcare facility, with daily responsibilities spanning patient consultations, diagnostic workups, and the long-term management of chronic and acute conditions. As a specialist in internal medicine, you will be a key clinical decision-maker whose judgments shape treatment pathways and influence the broader medical team’s effectiveness. Your work directly supports patient safety, clinical excellence, and the reputation of the institution as a trusted provider of comprehensive care.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive patient evaluations, including history taking, physical examinations, and differential diagnosis formulation.
- Order, interpret, and follow up on laboratory and imaging studies to guide evidence-based treatment plans.
- Manage in-patient and out-patient cases, adjusting therapies based on patient response and evolving clinical findings.
- Perform or supervise procedures commonly required in internal medicine, such as thoracentesis, paracentesis, and central venous access, in line with competency and hospital policy.
- Provide timely and clear communication with patients and their families regarding diagnoses, prognosis, and treatment options.
- Collaborate with other specialists, nursing staff, and allied health professionals to ensure coordinated, multidisciplinary care for complex cases.
- Lead clinical rounds and contribute to the supervision, mentoring, and teaching of medical officers, residents, and students.
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date medical records and participate in quality assurance, audits, or clinical governance activities.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBChB) or an equivalent medical degree from a recognised institution.
- A Master’s degree in Internal Medicine, demonstrating advanced training in adult medical disorders.
- Full registration with the Medical Practitioners & Dentists Board (Kenya) and possession of a valid, current practicing license.
- Strong clinical reasoning, diagnostic, and procedural skills suitable for a specialist-level practitioner.
- Proven ability to work effectively both as a team leader directing care and as a collaborative team member within a multidisciplinary environment.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a commitment to patient-centered care and ethical medical practice.
