Role Overview
This position involves teaching Mathematics and Physical Education across assigned classes, with responsibility for planning, delivering, and assessing lessons that align with a competency-based curriculum. The teacher works closely with colleagues to build coherent units and sequences, monitors each learner’s academic and behavioural growth, and communicates progress to families. The role matters because it directly shapes students’ mathematical reasoning, physical fitness, and readiness for further study or training.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and teach Mathematics and Physical Education lessons that reflect the school’s vision, mission, and competency-based approach.
- Collaborate with colleagues to develop unit plans, lesson plans, course outlines, and other curriculum documents.
- Keep accurate records of work, class analyses, and other required teaching documentation.
- Differentiate lessons and use a variety of learner-centred activities so students with different needs stay engaged and make progress.
- Assess learning, monitor progress toward targets, and prepare students for the next stage of education or career pathways.
- Display students’ work and finished projects in the classroom to highlight their achievements.
- Arrange regular excursions that expose learners to different environments and practical experiences.
- Observe learner behaviour, support students with learning differences or behavioural challenges, build self-confidence, teach social values, and update progress records for parent reports.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor of Education (Arts) degree with Mathematics and Physical Education as teaching subjects.
- A minimum of B- in O-level examinations or an equivalent secondary school qualification.
- Current registration with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
- One to two years of classroom teaching experience.
- Demonstrated familiarity with competency-based education and its classroom application.
- The ability to teach an additional subject is considered an advantage.
- Comfortable using Microsoft Office tools for teaching records, reports, and communication.
