Role Overview
This position focuses on executing the annual audit plan by leading operational, financial, and compliance audits across the organisation. Day-to-day work involves designing audit programs, identifying control weaknesses, and communicating findings to management to strengthen risk management and governance. The role also includes daily monitoring of cash variances and investigating irregularities, making it critical for safeguarding assets and ensuring regulatory adherence in a banking environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement the annual audit plan, defining objectives, scope, and risk assessments for each engagement.
- Prepare and execute audit programs that comply with internal work paper standards, documenting all findings.
- Identify significant control weaknesses and report them to management in a timely manner, then track corrective actions until fully resolved.
- Draft audit reports with clear observations, comments, and actionable recommendations, and present findings at audit meetings.
- Monitor cash variances across all branches daily, investigate discrepancies, and escalate or resolve issues as needed.
- Conduct ongoing audits of areas vulnerable to operational fraud, including unusual loan transactions, branch cash-out incidents, and expense abuse.
- Perform weekly client sampling by contacting 10–20 clients to verify the validity of transactions.
- Review loan book reconciliations, balance sheet accounts, banking rights, user access, and processed journals to ensure financial accuracy and policy compliance.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Internal Audit, Finance, Accounting, or a related field; advanced degree or professional certification (e.g., CIA) is highly desirable.
- 4–7 years of experience in an auditing role, preferably within banking or financial services.
- Willingness and ability to travel across Africa as required.
- Solid knowledge of internal audit principles, standards, and internal control environments.
- Familiarity with relevant laws, regulations, and industry best practices, particularly in financial crime and compliance legislation.
- Demonstrated focus on improving risk management, control, and governance processes.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment while meeting deadlines.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, along with excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
