Internal Audit Assistant

Role Overview

This role supports the internal audit function of a financial institution by checking whether spending, records, controls, and day-to-day procedures are accurate and being followed. Working with senior audit staff, you will help identify weaknesses, document findings, and contribute to practical improvements that protect the organisation’s assets and support sound operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Review compliance with internal procedures, applicable regulations, and organisational standards.
• Compare actual expenditure with approved budget allocations and flag discrepancies for follow-up.
• Help verify asset and inventory records through physical stock counts and other audit checks.
• Support audit investigations by gathering and examining relevant records and information.
• Test controls, systems, and procedures to identify gaps, weaknesses, or areas needing improvement.
• Work with senior audit colleagues to review and strengthen existing safeguards and standards.
• Assist with preparing reports on reconciliations and assessments of organisational assets.
• Keep audit working papers, departmental registers, and files up to date, and coordinate departmental document dispatches.

Requirements & Qualifications

• At least 25 years of age.
• A degree in a business-related discipline.
• Completion of CPA Part II.
• A minimum KCSE grade of B plain.
• At least two years of internal audit experience within a financial institution; microfinance experience is preferred.
• Evidence of strong performance and the ability to achieve results.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• A valid Certificate of Good Conduct, to be provided by the successful candidate.
