Role Overview
This position is central to keeping the University's ICT environment responsive, secure, and reliable for staff, faculty, and students. Day to day, you will support network infrastructure, repair and configure equipment, assist users with technical problems, and help implement digital projects that modernise how the University operates. Your efforts directly contribute to uninterrupted learning, research, and administrative work across campus.
Key Responsibilities
- Enforce and apply ICT policies, standards, and operating procedures throughout all University systems and supported devices.
- Troubleshoot and repair computers, printers, and related peripherals deployed in offices, lecture halls, labs, and other campus locations.
- Install, configure, and test computer hardware, network software, and operating systems, including coordinating scheduled upgrades to the ICT network.
- Create and manage user accounts, access rights, and security groups in Active Directory in line with institutional rules and data protection practices.
- Support the implementation and maintenance of LAN and WAN services so the University community has consistent access to internal systems and online resources.
- Develop standard digitisation formats and workflows for University records and administrative procedures, ensuring consistency and ease of retrieval.
- Deploy digital tools and services, including automation platforms, cloud applications, and data analytics solutions, to improve institutional efficiency.
- Contribute to ICT security, backup, and disaster recovery measures to protect University systems and assets; also help maintain the University website and provide end-user training and technical guidance.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Diploma in Information Technology, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, Business Information Technology, or a closely related discipline.
- At least three years of relevant work experience in a fast-paced ICT support or operations role.
- Proven ability to diagnose and repair hardware faults and install or upgrade software on a variety of devices.
- Hands-on experience with user administration, preferably in an Active Directory environment, and familiarity with network fundamentals such as DNS, DHCP, and IP configuration.
- Practical understanding of LAN and WAN technologies, including switching, routing, and wireless access, to help maintain reliable campus connectivity.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to support users with varying levels of technical confidence, including delivering clear training and guidance.
- Knowledge of ICT security basics, data backup procedures, and disaster recovery principles.
- Up-to-date awareness of emerging technologies and the ability to apply them in practical, scalable ways within a university setting.
