Job Description

Job Summary

  • Our client, a diversified group of companies operating across different industries and business units, is seeking an experienced HR Manager to provide overall leadership of the Human Resources function across the group. The role sets group-wide HR direction, strengthens governance and compliance, and ensures each company receives consistent, practical HR support. The successful candidate will lead the HR team, advise senior management on people matters, and drive workforce planning, performance, employee relations, succession and culture across the group.

Key Responsibilities
Group HR Strategy & Governance

  • Develop and implement the HR strategy in line with the overall business direction and the operating needs of the individual companies.
  • Establish and maintain clear HR governance standards, policies, procedures, approval processes and minimum documentation requirements across all group companies.
  • Provide practical HR advisory support to Directors and senior management on organisation structure, workforce decisions, employee relations, performance and people risk.
  • Ensure HR decisions and practices are consistent, properly documented and implemented across the different businesses while allowing for legitimate operational differences.

Workforce Planning, Talent & Succession

  • Lead manpower planning, headcount reviews and workforce audits across the group, identifying staffing gaps, excess capacity, critical roles and future manpower requirements.
  • Work with company and department heads to review organisation structures, role clarity and staffing levels against business needs and productivity expectations.
  • Oversee recruitment standards for senior and critical positions, including selection controls, background verification, onboarding and probation management.
  • Develop and maintain succession plans and talent pipelines for key and business critical roles.

Performance Management, Employee Relations & Culture

  • Own the overall performance management framework and ensure KPIs, reviews, probation assessments, PIPs and performance actions are completed and documented within agreed timelines.
  • Lead or guide complex employee relations matters including grievances, investigations, disciplinary processes and exits, ensuring fair and consistent handling.
  • Monitor employee turnover, absenteeism, engagement and other people trends and recommend corrective or retention actions where required.
  • Drive a consistent group culture and expected standards of conduct across companies operating in different industries.

Compliance, Reporting & HR Team Leadership

  • Maintain oversight of compliance with Kenyan employment requirements, internal HR policies, employee documentation and statutory HR obligations.
  • Conduct or coordinate periodic HR compliance reviews across group companies and ensure identified gaps are assigned, tracked and closed.
  • Prepare consolidated management reports covering headcount, vacancies, turnover, attendance, leave, employee relations, performance, training and compliance matters.
  • Lead, coach and manage the HR team, set clear responsibilities and KPIs, and ensure timely delivery of HR services to all group companies and branches.
  • Maintain accurate group HR data and ensure employee files, trackers, and HR systems are current, complete, and reliable.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Master’s / Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration or a related field.
  • At least 5–8 years of progressive HR experience, including at least 3 years in an HR management or senior HR leadership role.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting multiple companies, business units, branches or a multi-site workforce; experience across more than one industry will be a strong advantage.
  • Strong working knowledge of Kenyan employment law, employee relations, disciplinary processes and HR compliance requirements.
  • Practical experience in workforce planning, performance management, HR policy development, succession planning and management reporting.
  • Strong HR data, reporting and HRIS capability, with good proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Membership with the Institute of Human Resource Management (IHRM) and/or relevant professional HR certification will be an added advantage.

Key Competencies

  • Sound judgement and the ability to give clear, practical advice to senior management.
  • Strong leadership, employee relations and conflict-resolution capability.
  • Ability to operate across different businesses, priorities and workforce environments without losing consistency in HR standards.
  • High level of integrity, confidentiality, organisation and follow-through.
  • Availability to work on weekends is required.
