Housekeeping Reliever

Role Overview

This position keeps the property guest-ready by servicing rooms, bathrooms, corridors, and shared public spaces to a consistent cleanliness and hygiene standard, while also running the linen and uniform cycle through the laundry. The work sits at the front line of the guest experience: a well-kept room and a spotless lobby are often the first and last things a visitor notices, and this role is what makes both possible. The person in this job moves between housekeeping sections as operational needs shift, so adaptability matters as much as thoroughness.

Key Responsibilities

• Service assigned guest rooms and bathrooms — making beds, changing linens, dusting, vacuuming, sanitising fixtures, and restoring each room to its presentation standard before the next arrival.
• Keep corridors, lobbies, and other assigned public areas clean and presentable throughout the shift through spot-cleaning, waste removal, and tidying.
• Complete the laundry cycle end to end: sort by fabric, colour, and use, operate washers and dryers, press and fold, and return linens and uniforms to storage so par levels are maintained.
• Replenish guest amenities, room supplies, and cleaning materials, and flag low stock before it runs out.
• Mix, apply, and store cleaning chemicals according to label instructions and safety guidance, and keep carts, tools, and equipment clean and serviceable.
• Inspect assigned areas and report damaged fixtures or equipment, maintenance faults, lost property, and unusual incidents to management promptly.
• Follow hygiene, sanitation, and personal grooming standards across every section worked, including key handling, trolley routines, and lost-property procedures.
• Step in as a reliever across housekeeping sections when staffing requires it, picking up each section's routines quickly and accurately.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Practical experience in hotel housekeeping, laundry, or public-area cleaning; time spent in more than one of these areas is a distinct advantage.
• Solid working knowledge of cleaning methods, hygiene and sanitation practice, and chemical handling — including dilution, protective equipment, storage, and fabric or surface suitability.
• Clear communication with supervisors, guests, and teammates, plus the time management to finish an assigned workload within the shift.
• Sharp attention to detail and the ability to notice what a guest would notice — missed spots, depleted amenities, small faults.
• Physical fitness for a largely standing and walking role involving lifting, bending, reaching, and pushing loaded housekeeping carts.
• Flexibility to rotate across housekeeping sections as a reliever and to adapt when priorities change mid-shift.
• Hospitality or housekeeping training is an added advantage.
• Reliable, honest handling of guest belongings, and presentation that meets the property's grooming standard.
