Assistant Housekeeper

Role Overview

This position leads the housekeeping operation on the floors, turning the daily room-and-public-area schedule into rooms that are clean, inspected and ready for arriving guests. It sits at the centre of the Rooms Division, balancing team deployment, supply control and quality checks while working shoulder to shoulder with housekeeping colleagues rather than directing from a distance. Success here shows up directly in guest satisfaction scores, turnaround times at check-in and the consistency of standards across every floor and corridor.

Key Responsibilities

• Run the day-to-day housekeeping floor operation, setting room assignments, cleaning sequences and priorities in line with the day's occupancy and arrival forecast.
• Lead, supervise and coach the housekeeping team, managing attendance, productivity, deployment and performance conversations on an ongoing basis.
• Carry out regular inspections of guest rooms and public areas, checking results against hotel standards and standard operating procedures and following up on shortfalls immediately.
• Track room status in close coordination with Front Office so that clean rooms are released quickly and accurately for incoming guests.
• Keep linen, uniforms, guest amenities, cleaning chemicals and equipment available, correctly stored and properly controlled, monitoring consumption and reducing waste and loss.
• Handle guest requests, complaints and service-recovery situations relating to housekeeping, resolving issues promptly and feeding learnings back into the operation.
• Identify operational gaps and act on them before they reach the guest, and ensure health, safety and hygiene requirements are consistently observed across the department.
• Support onboarding, training and performance management of team members, and maintain departmental records, reports and operational controls.
• Communicate and coordinate with Front Office, Engineering, Food & Beverage and other departments, and step in for the Executive Housekeeper when required.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Proven experience in a housekeeping supervisory or Assistant Housekeeper position within a hotel environment.
• Solid working knowledge of hotel housekeeping operations, procedures and service standards.
• Demonstrated ability to lead, coach and develop a diverse team, with strong people-management, communication and interpersonal skills.
• Excellent organisation and time management, with the capacity to juggle room readiness, inspections, staffing, amenity levels and departmental controls at once.
• High attention to detail and a genuine commitment to upholding standards.
• Confident working independently, taking initiative and making sound operational decisions under pressure in a fast-paced hotel setting.
• A hands-on, visible leadership style, comfortable working alongside the team on the floors.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical ability, including the skill to spot operational gaps and put practical fixes in place.
• A relevant qualification in Hospitality Management, Housekeeping Operations or a related discipline.
