Role Overview
As the first point of contact for guests entering our hotel restaurant, you set the tone for the entire dining experience. Your day centers on managing reservations, orchestrating seating flow, and anticipating guest needs so that every arrival feels anticipated and every table is ready. By balancing speed with genuine hospitality, you directly support the restaurant’s reputation and help ensure smooth service for both guests and the waitstaff.
Key Responsibilities
- Answer incoming calls promptly with a professional greeting, then manage reservation requests, cancellations, and modifications according to established procedures.
- Review the reservation book each shift, assign tables fairly based on the floor plan, and flag any special requests or VIP needs to management.
- Greet guests at the entrance, confirm their reservations, and escort them to prepared tables that match their preferences and the seating rotation.
- Inspect the hostess stand, menus, and check folders before service begins, replenishing supplies and ensuring everything is spotless and presentable.
- Monitor table turnover and wait times during peak periods, organizing the waiting list and communicating delays calmly to guests.
- Observe guest reactions throughout their meal and proactively address any concerns, following the restaurant’s guest recovery procedures to ensure satisfaction.
- Coordinate with serving staff and management on table readiness, group arrivals, and any changes in room capacity or special events.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability to stay composed and courteous under pressure, even during crowded service hours or when handling demanding guests.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a talent for reading guest needs and responding promptly and naturally.
- Proven problem-solving skills, especially when managing waitlists, seating conflicts, or unexpected reservation changes.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced restaurant or hotel environment while maintaining attention to detail.
- A collaborative mindset, ready to support fellow team members and communicate clearly with management throughout the shift.
- Knowledge of restaurant floor layouts, table numbering, and reservation procedures is essential, as is familiarity with hotel services to answer guest questions accurately.
