Role Overview
This is a senior nurse executive position responsible for shaping and directing nursing practice across the organization. In this role, you will lead nursing strategy, set clinical standards, and ensure that all patient care aligns with national regulatory frameworks and the hospital’s broader objectives. Your daily work involves translating policy into actionable nursing protocols, guiding departmental heads, and collaborating with medical and administrative leadership to drive quality improvement and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership to the nursing department, establishing short- and long-term goals that support the facility’s mission and patient care vision.
- Develop, review, and implement nursing policies, procedures, and standards in line with the Nursing Council of Kenya regulations and evidence-based practice.
- Oversee nursing workforce planning, including staffing levels, skill mix, and resource allocation across all units to ensure safe, effective care delivery.
- Lead and mentor senior nursing managers, fostering a culture of accountability, professional development, and continuous quality improvement.
- Collaborate with medical staff, hospital administration, and external stakeholders to coordinate multidisciplinary care and address systemic challenges.
- Monitor and evaluate clinical outcomes, using data and audits to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective action plans.
- Represent nursing leadership in strategic planning meetings, budget discussions, and regulatory inspections, ensuring nursing priorities are reflected in decision-making.
- Drive patient safety initiatives, risk management processes, and infection prevention programs across all nursing departments.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSCN) from a recognized university; a postgraduate qualification in management, administration, or a related field is an added advantage.
- Current registration with the Nursing Council of Kenya and possession of a valid practicing license.
- At least 10 years of progressive nursing experience, including 3–5 years in a senior nursing leadership role such as Deputy Director of Nursing, Nurse Manager, or Head of Nursing Department.
- Proven ability to think strategically and translate organizational goals into effective nursing operational plans.
- Strong policy development and decision-making skills, with experience interpreting and applying healthcare regulations.
- Excellent stakeholder management capabilities, with a track record of building productive relationships across clinical and administrative teams.
- Demonstrated project execution skills, including leading initiatives that improve service delivery, patient outcomes, or staff performance.
