Role Overview
Reporting directly to executive management, this position puts you in charge of the entire clinical side of a well-established healthcare facility in Embu. You will lead daily operations across inpatient, outpatient, maternity, theatre, and diagnostic services, enforce clinical governance and infection control, and ensure compliance with national health standards and KMPDC regulations. The role is central to the facility's reputation and the quality and safety of patient care.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the everyday functioning of outpatient, inpatient, maternity, surgical theatre, laboratory, and pharmacy services.
- Create, review, and apply standard operating procedures, infection control measures, and clinical governance frameworks.
- Assess patient care outcomes, run quality improvement initiatives, and verify compliance with accreditation expectations.
- Resolve complex medical situations, manage patient complaints, and support clinical teams in delivering safe, effective treatment.
- Manage and evaluate medical officers, consultants, clinical officers, and nursing leaders, identifying training needs and performance gaps.
- Coordinate continuous medical education activities and support HR in recruiting, orienting, and credentialing clinical personnel.
- Help prepare the clinical budget and monitor spending on medicines, consumables, and equipment so resources are used wisely.
- Oversee risk assessments, malpractice prevention, and emergency readiness, while ensuring all clinical staff maintain active professional licenses.
Requirements & Qualifications
- MBChB degree from a recognized institution, with full registration and a valid practicing license from the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council.
- A postgraduate qualification such as MMed, MPH, Health Systems Management, or MBA is preferred but not mandatory.
- At least 5–7 years in clinical practice, including a minimum of 3 years in a senior supervisory or clinical management role at a Level 4 or higher hospital.
- Practical understanding of evidence-based medicine, clinical auditing, and hospital safety and infection control standards.
- Strong budgeting, resource planning, and medical inventory management skills.
- Excellent leadership, interpersonal, conflict management, and crisis communication abilities.
