Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the development and implementation of curriculum to ensure high-quality education standards are met.
  • Participate in financial aspects related to academic programs, including budget planning and resource allocation.
  • Attend and actively participate in both scheduled and unscheduled college meetings.
  • Serve as a member of the college committee, contributing to decision-making and policy development.
  • Ensure all teaching staff are properly oriented and have signed their job descriptions.
  • Participate in the interview committee for potential students, contributing to the selection process.
  • Represent the college before regulatory bodies when required, ensuring compliance and advocating for institutional interests.
  • Carry out responsibilities according to established timelines and schedules.
  • Support and maintain the spiritual growth of students through appropriate programs and activities.
  • Participate in student discipline processes as needed, fostering a positive and supportive learning environment.
  • Ensure accurate and secure maintenance of student records and academic documentation.
  • Maintain continuous professional development to stay updated with current educational trends and practices.
  • Conduct classroom instruction and evaluation, ensuring effective teaching methods and student learning outcomes.
  • Maintain standards for examination settings and oversee exam administration and certification processes.
  • Chair or participate in curriculum committees to review and enhance educational programs; serve as the secretary of Academic committee when appointed.
  • Administer and enforce school policies related to academics and assessment integrity
  • Assess students in clinical settings to evaluate practical knowledge and skills.
  • Prepare and present qualified students to regulatory bodies for licensure examinations.
  • Plan and oversee college final examinations, ensuring fairness and integrity in assessment processes.
  • Assist in invigilation of national examinations as required by regulatory bodies or external agencies.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to the team fostering a cohesive and unified organizational culture.
  • Day-to-day operations, supervision, management of performance and development of staff in the Department.
  • Facilitate implementation of the work plans for the following corporate initiatives in the Department: Audit, Integrity, QMS, Risk Management and others.
  • Development and management of the Departmental work plan and budget.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in clinical medicine & surgery, Health Sciences or related field from a recognized institution.
  • Diploma in Education; Compliance with the MoE requirements for HoD position.
  • Nursing Council of Kenya or Clinical Officers Council/Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA) Licenced.
  • Registration with and Valid License from Clinical Officers Council (COC)
