Role Overview
This is an academic teaching position within the Health Records & Information Management department, where the successful candidate will deliver lectures and practical instruction to both Diploma and Certificate students. Beyond the classroom, the role involves shaping the curriculum, assessing student progress, supervising research projects, and contributing to the university’s scholarly output through research and publications. Reporting directly to the Head of Department, the role is central to producing competent health records professionals who meet national and institutional standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute actively to curriculum development and periodic review, ensuring course content stays relevant to current health information practices.
- Develop detailed course outlines and learning materials that align with the approved syllabus and support structured, measurable student outcomes.
- Teach Diploma and Certificate level courses in health records and information management, using varied instructional methods suited to learner needs.
- Set, administer, and invigilate examinations, then provide timely, constructive feedback to students and progressive assessment reports to the department.
- Supervise student projects and participate in project defence meetings, guiding learners through research and completion requirements.
- Conduct research, prepare manuscripts for publication, and present findings at conferences to contribute to knowledge in the field.
- Seek external research funding and engage with funding bodies to support departmental and university research priorities.
- Coordinate and supervise field studies, internships, and student attachments, evaluating performance during off-campus learning experiences.
- Monitor class attendance records, verifying that students meet the required attendance threshold of at least four-fifths of all lectures before examination eligibility.
- Attend official university meetings and support administrative duties as assigned by the Head of Department.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, with at least an Upper Second-Class Honours classification.
- A minimum of one (1) year of teaching experience at a recognised academic institution.
- Active enrolment in a relevant Master’s degree programme, with evidence of registration.
- Current registration with the Health Records & Information Management Board.
- Strong communication, presentation, and student supervision skills, along with the ability to manage examinations and academic reporting.
