Role Overview

You will be an integral part of the nursing faculty, focusing on medical-surgical nursing across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. Your day-to-day work involves delivering engaging lectures, guiding students through clinical simulations, and supervising their practical placements in healthcare settings. Beyond teaching, you will conduct meaningful research that informs nursing practice and helps shape the next generation of competent, compassionate nurses in Kenya.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and deliver lectures, seminars, and tutorials in medical-surgical nursing, ensuring content is current, evidence-based, and aligned with the national nursing curriculum.
• Coordinate and supervise students during clinical practicum placements, providing constructive feedback and assessing their hands-on competencies in hospital and community settings.
• Design, administer, and mark examinations, assignments, and practical assessments in line with university academic standards and quality assurance policies.
• Act as a research supervisor for undergraduate and postgraduate students, guiding them through proposal development, data collection, analysis, and dissertation writing.
• Conduct independent and collaborative research in medical-surgical nursing, aiming to publish findings in reputable, peer-reviewed journals and present at academic conferences.
• Contribute to curriculum development and periodic review, strengthening course content, learning outcomes, and teaching materials to meet evolving healthcare demands.
• Provide academic advising and mentorship to nursing students, supporting their professional growth and helping them navigate academic challenges.
• Participate in departmental committees, school meetings, and community outreach initiatives that enhance nursing education and public health awareness.

Requirements & Qualifications

• A PhD in Medical-Surgical Nursing or a closely related discipline from a recognised university. Candidates with a Master's degree and active enrolment in a PhD programme will also be considered.
• Registration and a valid practising licence with the Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK), plus active membership in relevant professional and academic nursing bodies.
• A minimum of three years of university teaching or research experience in nursing is an added advantage, demonstrating your ability to engage diverse student cohorts.
• A clear track record of research publications in peer-reviewed journals, or evidence of strong potential to develop and execute a scholarly research agenda.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate nursing students from varied academic backgrounds.
• Proficiency in educational technologies, online learning platforms, and digital tools for teaching and research administration.
