Job Description

Role Overview

This academic post centres on the delivery and coordination of teaching in curriculum development, alongside active participation in research and scholarly output. The role holder will guide undergraduate and postgraduate students through lectures, supervision, and assessment while also helping to shape the wider academic programme. Day-to-day work balances classroom responsibilities, research activity, and administrative contributions that support the university’s learning objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver lectures, seminars, and tutorials in curriculum development, ensuring content is current, coherent, and aligned with programme learning outcomes.
  • Design, administer, and mark assessments, providing constructive feedback to help students strengthen their academic performance.
  • Supervise student research projects, dissertations, and practical assignments at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  • Develop and update course materials, reading lists, and teaching resources that reflect contemporary issues and debates in the field.
  • Undertake original research, write scholarly articles, and present findings to reinforce the department’s research profile.
  • Participate in curriculum reviews, programme development, and quality assurance processes within the subject area.
  • Support students through academic advising, mentoring, and pastoral care to improve progression and attainment.
  • Contribute to departmental and faculty committees, attending meetings and collaborating on administrative tasks as required.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A PhD in a discipline closely related to curriculum development or education studies from a recognised university.
  • Candidates with a relevant Master’s degree and current registration for a PhD will also be considered.
  • At least three years of university-level teaching or research experience, with a demonstrated record of publications or clear research potential.
  • Membership in relevant professional and academic bodies is an added advantage but not mandatory.
  • Strong communication and facilitation skills, with the capacity to engage diverse learners and foster an inclusive academic environment.
  • Evidence of quality research output, such as peer-reviewed journal articles, conference papers, or book chapters.
