Role Overview
We are seeking a highly analytical, process-driven Fleet Supervisor to anchor our fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) distribution fleet. Your primary focus is to maximize fleet reliability, vehicle uptime, and asset safety across our regional distribution routes. This position bridges mechanical oversight with strict administrative compliance; you will guide our transport division from structured preventive maintenance plans and technical workshop audits through to NTSA documentation renewals and real-time telematics tracking. The role calls for a detail-oriented professional with a strong automotive baseline who can optimize fuel costs and enforce strict driver safety guidelines within a fast-paced retail supply environment.
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance Coordination & Asset Reliability
- Coordinate and track weekly preventive maintenance runs, mechanical repairs, and emergency fixes with accredited automotive service garages.
- Inspect completed garage works on company vehicles and delivery motorcycles to guarantee total road safety, optimal transport availability, and vehicle durability.
- Review daily driver and rider pre-trip inspection checklists to catch minor mechanical faults before they lead to distribution downtime.
- Secure and organize all primary vehicle assets, spare parts inventory files, duplicate tracking keys, and emergency roadside kits.
Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management
- Coordinate the timely processing of commercial insurance renewals, yearly vehicle inspections, environmental permits, and municipal licenses.
- Enforce absolute compliance with NTSA transport guidelines and national traffic laws governing industrial commercial fleets.
- Direct the investigation of road accidents, drafting detailed hazard summaries, and coordinating with insurance partners to settle material claims smoothly.
- Audit vehicle compliance statuses, ensuring all delivery drivers possess valid licenses, clean records, and correct personal protective equipment (PPE).
Telematics Monitoring & Expense Auditing
- Monitor real-time distribution operations using advanced telematics software, swiftly correcting unauthorized route deviations or reckless driving habits.
- Audit consumption trends across fuel cards, identify cost-saving opportunities, and keep transparent expense records for all logistics lines.
- Collaborate with Human Resources to design and implement ongoing driver training initiatives, covering defensive driving and defensive handling.
- Compile clear weekly maintenance logs, fuel consumption audits, and asset utilization scorecards for senior management evaluation.
Qualifications & Experience
Minimum Entry Criteria
- Academic Foundation: Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Fleet Management, Transport and Logistics, or a related technical track.
- Professional Longevity: Minimum of 3 years of active, hands-on experience directly supervising a mixed fleet of delivery trucks, utility cars, and dispatch motorcycles.
- Regulatory Fluency: Deep functional understanding of vehicle mechanics, preventive maintenance cycles, and Kenyan traffic and NTSA statutory frameworks.
- Digital Toolkit: Proficiency using Microsoft Office programs (especially Excel for expense analysis) alongside working knowledge of vehicle tracking and telematics software.
Skills & Competencies
- Logistical Synchronization: Excellent organizing, multitasking, and workflow scheduling skills suited for high-volume FMCG operations.
- Firm Leadership: Confident interpersonal style, with a proven ability to direct and build accountability within dynamic driver and rider cohorts.
- Problem Mitigation: Analytical mindset geared toward identifying cost leakages, vehicle wear factors, and route operational improvements.
Employee Rewards & Benefits
- Operational Autonomy: Take complete charge of a growing commercial transport network, with the authority to build modern, efficient maintenance models.
- Professional Visibility: Advance your corporate profile by managing vital supply chain channels within a stable, fast-expanding FMCG enterprise.
- Skill Diversification: Master advanced logistics software, data-driven cost forecasting, and multi-asset compliance frameworks.
