Job Description

Role Overview

This role sits at the heart of the bank's financing operations, where you will be responsible for reviewing and validating credit proposals from the moment they arrive until disbursement. You will ensure every transaction aligns with the bank's internal financing policies, Shari'ah principles, and the Central Bank of Kenya's prudential guidelines, while also preparing the statutory returns that keep the bank compliant. Day to day, you will act as a bridge between business units, relationship managers, and senior credit committees, making sure facility applications move quickly and safely through the approval pipeline, and that the overall asset book remains healthy through careful risk monitoring and timely corrective action.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct a detailed review of all financing proposals, verifying that each application is accurate, complete, and fully aligned with both Shari'ah requirements and CBK prudential guidelines before it proceeds.
  • Prepare and submit statutory reports to the Central Bank of Kenya and Credit Reference Bureaus, along with any additional management reports requested by the bank's leadership.
  • Track and follow up on facility applications originating from business units, ensuring they reach the next approval level within agreed turnaround times and that service level commitments are consistently met.
  • Scrutinise all supporting documentation for each facility, including application letters, KYC documents such as national IDs and PIN certificates, and completed Facility Limit Proposals, maintaining an organised record of every application under review.
  • Oversee the post-loan approval process, verifying conditions precedent and preparing the necessary functions after Letter of Offer issuance to enable smooth and well-controlled disbursement.
  • Coordinate the timely disbursement of approved facilities, ensuring adequate internal controls are applied at every step and branch officers receive the support they need to complete bookings.
  • Conduct competitor analysis and market research on financing products, providing insights that keep the bank's offering competitive and relevant in the market.
  • Keep branch financing officers informed of key financing policies, procedural changes, and emerging issues, strengthening relationship management and the quality of the overall asset portfolio through proactive risk evaluation and corrective recommendations.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, Administration, or a related field; a Master's degree is an added advantage.
  • A Diploma in Banking, professional banking qualifications, or CPA (K) certification will be considered a strong plus.
  • At least five years of relevant work experience with a proven, results-oriented track record in financing, credit, or banking operations.
  • Demonstrated experience in business development and banking operations, with a strong customer service orientation.
  • A thorough understanding of the bank's financing policy, Shari'ah financing guidelines, and CBK prudential guidelines, with the ability to interpret and apply them consistently.
  • Strong analytical skills for evaluating facility structures, interpreting complex financing arrangements, and developing turnaround strategies for non-performing loans.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral, to manage customer expectations and build effective relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Effective planning and organisational skills to execute tasks and deliverables within agreed timeframes and resource constraints.
  • High quality orientation, paying close attention to documentation standards, compliance benchmarks, and service level agreements.
  • A self-empowered approach that fosters open communication, teamwork, and a customer-focused culture across the bank.
