Finance Assistant

Role Overview

The Finance Assistant supports AECF’s Finance team and its internal stakeholders by keeping accounting records complete, accurate and up to date in the ERP system. The role focuses on transaction accruals, account reconciliations, month-end processes and audit documentation, helping maintain reliable financial controls across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

• Record and accrue transactions promptly and accurately in the ERP system.
• Reconcile vendor accounts regularly, investigate discrepancies and follow up on outstanding issues with vendors.
• Prepare assigned bank reconciliations and alert the Senior Finance Officer to matters requiring attention.
• Complete other account reconciliations, resolve identified discrepancies where possible and escalate outstanding items.
• Support monthly account closure by completing assigned system and accounting tasks and raising concerns with the Senior Finance Officer.
• Retrieve and organise supporting records for institutional and project audits.
• Coordinate with service providers to support timely delivery of quality services.
• Take on other finance duties as assigned.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in economics, statistics, commerce, finance or a related discipline from a recognised university.
• Finance qualification such as CPA or ACCA, or an equivalent qualification in a related field.
• Membership in a relevant professional body.
• At least three years’ experience managing finances for an international non-profit organisation with a budget exceeding $20 million and multiple funding sources; experience with bilateral donor funding is preferred.
• Experience working with funding from FCDO, GAC, KfW, IFC, the EU, the World Bank or SIDA.
• Practical experience using an ERP system and strong command of advanced Excel features.
• Fluency in English; French or another additional language is an advantage.
