Electrical Technician

Role Overview

This position centres on keeping an industrial process plant running by handling the full lifecycle of electrical and instrumentation equipment — from routine checks to emergency fault finding. You will work as part of the shift engineering team, making sure that machines and power systems operate safely and without unscheduled downtime. Your ability to trace faults quickly and carry out precise repairs will directly affect production continuity, safety compliance, and overall plant reliability.

Key Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot and repair electrical faults on production machinery, including motor control circuits, sensors, control panels, and related process equipment, replacing defective parts as needed.
• Carry out regular inspections of wiring, switchgear, distribution boards, and electrical installations to flag deterioration, overload risks, or compliance issues before they become failures.
• Install and terminate cabling for power distribution, lighting, LV panels, alarm systems, and data/network connections, following approved wiring diagrams and plant standards.
• Perform scheduled preventive maintenance tasks on electrical and instrumentation systems, adjusting settings, cleaning contacts, and verifying performance to help prevent breakdowns.
• Report equipment failure patterns and material or spare-part requirements to the supervisor during shift handover, supporting accurate maintenance planning.
• Use handheld testing instruments such as multimeters, insulation testers, and loop testers to confirm that installations and repairs meet operational and safety requirements.
• Operate and maintain all assigned tools and test equipment correctly, following plant safety rules and permit-to-work procedures at all times.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Diploma in Electrical and Instrumentation Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Mechatronics, or a closely related technical discipline.
• At least three years of hands-on electrical maintenance experience within an industrial or continuous-process environment; exposure to food processing or similarly hygiene-regulated facilities is an advantage.
• Strong fault-finding ability across electrical control circuits, LV distribution systems, and instrumentation loops, with a methodical approach to troubleshooting.
• Familiarity with reading and interpreting single-line diagrams, wiring schematics, and technical manuals.
• Ability to work rotating shifts and to respond to urgent breakdown callouts as and when required.
• Good communication skills for concise shift reporting and effective coordination with supervisors and production teams.
• A safety-first mindset with practical knowledge of industrial electrical regulations and safe work practices.
