Role Overview
As a Driver III, you will be responsible for operating assigned vehicles safely and efficiently to support the organisation’s transport needs. Your day-to-day work involves conducting pre-trip and post-trip inspections, keeping accurate vehicle logs, and ensuring the safety of passengers and cargo. This role is essential for maintaining smooth operations and ensuring that staff and materials reach their destinations securely and on time.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate authorised motor vehicles for official duties, including transporting personnel, supplies, and equipment.
- Perform routine checks on vehicle systems such as cooling, oil, electrical, brakes, and tyre pressure, and report any faults or malfunctions promptly.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date work tickets and vehicle logs for each assigned trip.
- Ensure the security and safety of the vehicle at all times, both on and off the road, and safeguard passengers and goods during transit.
- Keep the vehicle clean and presentable, both inside and out, to uphold organisational standards.
- Adhere to all traffic laws and regulations, and practice defensive driving to prevent accidents.
- Assist with minor maintenance tasks and coordinate with mechanics for more extensive repairs.
- Report any accidents, incidents, or mechanical issues to the supervisor immediately.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) with a mean grade of D plain or an equivalent qualification from a recognised institution.
- A valid driving licence without any current endorsements for the classes of vehicles you are required to drive.
- Completion of a First-Aid Certificate Course lasting at least one week from St. John Ambulance, Kenya Institute of Highway and Building Technology (KIHBT), or another recognised institution.
- Successful completion of the Suitability Test for Driver Grade III.
- Passing the Practical Test for Drivers conducted by the respective Ministry/Department.
- A valid Certificate of Good Conduct from the Kenya Police.
- At least two (2) years of proven driving experience.
