Role Overview
This position sits at the point where design intent becomes buildable documentation. Working alongside architects, engineers and site teams, the drafter translates sketches, surveys and engineering specifications into coordinated drawing sets that contractors and approving authorities can rely on. Accuracy here has direct consequences — a misplaced dimension or an outdated revision can stall a submission, trigger a costly site query or compromise a build, which is why this role is treated as a technical function rather than a support task.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop detailed architectural, structural, mechanical and electrical documentation, covering floor plans, elevations, cross-sections and component schedules.
- Convert preliminary concepts, on-site measurements and engineering specifications into dimensionally accurate technical drawings using AutoCAD, Revit, ArchiCAD or SolidWorks.
- Interrogate each drawing for dimensional accuracy, internal consistency and conformity with applicable building regulations and technical standards before release.
- Manage drawing revisions and design amendments as projects evolve, and compile final as-built records once construction is complete.
- Support site surveys and field measurement exercises, capturing reliable technical data to inform project layouts.
- Assemble submission-ready drawing packages for clients, regulatory bodies, consulting engineers and construction contractors.
- Maintain a well-structured digital archive of drawing versions and supporting technical documentation so that the current revision is always identifiable.
- Coordinate continuously with architects, engineers, contractors and quantity surveyors across the full project lifecycle to keep drawings aligned with design and site reality.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Certificate or diploma in Drafting, Architectural Technology, Building Technology, or Civil, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
- Strong command of AutoCAD, with the ability to work confidently in advanced CAD environments.
- Working familiarity with BIM platforms such as Revit, and with Civil 3D or SolidWorks, is a distinct advantage.
- Practical grasp of construction standards, building regulations and the principles behind 3D modelling and visualisation.
- Exposure to field surveying methods and the physical gathering of measurement data on site.
- Exceptional precision in technical drawing, with a sharp eye for detail and a habit of self-checking work before it leaves your desk.
- Clear written and verbal communication, and a proven ability to operate within multi-disciplinary engineering teams.
- A demonstrable track record in a comparable drafting or CAD technician role.
