Role Overview
This is a field-based sales role at the sharp end of an FMCG distribution operation, where you take ownership of a defined set of retail outlets and the volume that moves through them. Working a planned route, you open new accounts, get new brands onto shelves and make sure existing listings never run dry — the daily difference between a distributor that is visible in the market and one that is not. It suits someone who is comfortable being measured on numbers and who can keep stock, cash and customer relationships in order without close supervision.
Key Responsibilities
- Hunt for new sales leads and convert them into orders to hit agreed volume targets, including introducing new brands to the market.
- Run an efficient coverage plan — keeping to scheduled route visits, maintaining the right delivery frequency and growing the average drop size (volume sold per outlet).
- Build strong working relationships with outlet owners and their staff, answering queries quickly and providing service that keeps the distributor's products front of mind.
- Track competitor activity, pricing and demand patterns in the territory, and feed what you learn back to the business.
- Keep outlets fully stocked: confirm that every product and brand is available on the shelf, and follow up on gaps before they cost a sale.
- Reconcile physical stock against sales at the close of each day and account for any variances.
- Collect payments from customers and process cashless transactions accurately, keeping records precise and up to date.
- Take care of the work tool assigned to you, keeping it in good condition and fit for daily field use.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A diploma or certificate in Sales and Marketing, or an equivalent qualification in a related field.
- KCSE mean grade of D+ or above, with at least a D+ in Mathematics and English.
- At least 2 years of relevant sales experience in the FMCG industry.
- A valid driving licence (Class C) and a valid motorcycle riding licence (Class A) — the motorcycle riding licence is a must for this position.
- Basic computer skills, including working knowledge of MS Office.
- An up-to-date Certificate of Good Conduct.
- Self-disciplined and self-organised, with the numeracy skills to handle stock, sales and payment figures accurately.
- Proactive, flexible and resilient, and able to contribute as part of a team when a route day does not go to plan.
- High levels of integrity and personal responsibility — you will be trusted with both stock and cash.
- Available to start immediately (immediate notice period).
