Role Overview
This Nairobi-based leadership position owns the commercial strategy for a luxury hotel, turning market intelligence into profitable decisions across rooms, dining, spa, and other revenue streams. The Director of Revenue Management balances daily tactical execution—such as pricing, inventory, and channel oversight—with long-term vision, ensuring the hotel outperforms its competitors while upholding its brand promise. This role is central to the hotel’s financial health, as every forecast, rate decision, and distribution partnership directly impacts the bottom line and guest experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead strategic planning with all revenue-generating departments, identifying and pursuing opportunities to increase profit from guest rooms, restaurants, spas, and ancillary services.
- Develop short- and long-term forecasts and participate in the annual budgeting process, using demand patterns and market signals to shape pricing and inventory tactics.
- Chair the weekly Revenue Management Meeting, preparing clear materials that guide the commercial team and align stakeholders around revenue goals.
- Own all distribution channels, including direct, OTA, and corporate partners, regularly evaluating performance and negotiating to maximize reach and revenue.
- Serve as system administrator for revenue management platforms, reservation systems, rate shopping tools, and hotel-specific applications, ensuring data accuracy and system hygiene.
- Partner with the marketing team to execute digital campaigns, manage OTA extranet content, and keep all online descriptions, images, and offerings current and compelling.
- Coach and mentor revenue management talent while promoting a revenue-focused culture throughout the hotel’s operational teams.
- Monitor economic indicators, competitor moves, and market trends to recommend proactive strategies that keep the hotel ahead.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Five or more years of demonstrated success in luxury hotel sales or revenue management, with a strong record of achieving and exceeding performance targets.
- A Master’s degree in hotel management, accounting, finance, mathematics, or a related quantitative discipline is preferred.
- Hands-on proficiency with revenue management and hospitality systems such as Ideas G3 RMS, Opera PMS, Passkey, Delphi, or Opera Sales.
- Ability to lead independently, motivate a team, and drive results with a proactive, solution-oriented mindset.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, including the capacity to build reports, interpret data, and spot revenue opportunities.
- Excellent presentation and proposal-writing skills to communicate the hotel’s value proposition to owners, partners, and clients.
- Willingness to represent the brand professionally at all times and travel as needed for client meetings, industry events, and hotel visits.
- Commitment to maintaining positive relationships with guests, vendors, colleagues, and travel network contacts, while embodying the company’s core values and culture.
