Role Overview
This senior leadership role drives the university’s daily strategic, financial, and operational agenda. You will oversee everything from planning and policy development to human resources and campus infrastructure, ensuring the institution runs effectively while upholding its academic mission. The position matters because it directly shapes the university’s long-term growth, regulatory compliance, and ability to serve students and staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the university’s administrative, financial, planning, and development functions with creative and innovative oversight.
- Supervise human resources activities including training, discipline, performance management, evaluation, and employee welfare services.
- Coordinate the creation of policies across administration, planning, finance, human resources, quality management, ICT, campus operations, health and safety, and infrastructure.
- Provide direction for healthcare services, transport, estate management, commercial enterprises, physical development, and resource mobilisation initiatives.
- Ensure all university operations comply with established statutes, policies, and regulations.
- Serve as an ex-officio member of the University Council, contributing to high-level governance decisions.
- Carry out any additional duties delegated by senior officers as needed.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Hold the rank of Professor or Associate Professor, with an earned PhD from a recognised university.
- Demonstrate outstanding scholarly and academic leadership via internationally recognised publications in refereed journals, university-level books, successful research grant acquisition, and supervision of postgraduate students.
- Fulfil the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010, concerning integrity and leadership.
- Exhibit high standards of integrity, professionalism, and ethical leadership aligned with the university’s Christian values.
- Possess at least ten years of relevant academic, administrative, and research experience at a university or comparable institution, including service in a senior academic and management role with measurable results.
- Show institutional leadership capabilities that support the university’s vision and strategic direction.
- Provide a proven record of resource mobilisation and sound financial management.
- Be well versed in national education laws and policies, current higher education trends both locally and globally, and quality assurance requirements.
