Job Description

Role Overview

You will serve as the frontline nursing expert for critically ill patients, managing their care from admission through stabilization and recovery in a fast-paced intensive care unit. Your day-to-day work involves operating complex life-support equipment, supporting physicians during invasive procedures, and making rapid clinical decisions based on continuous patient assessment. This role matters because your vigilance and technical competence directly determine patient outcomes in the most fragile moments of their treatment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct, prioritized nursing care to critically ill patients by continuously assessing vital signs, neurological status, and response to interventions.
  • Assist physicians during high-acuity procedures including bronchoscopy, endoscopy, endotracheal intubation, and elective cardioversion, ensuring patient safety and procedural efficiency.
  • Operate, calibrate, and troubleshoot ventilators, cardiac monitors, infusion pumps, and other life-support equipment to maintain optimal function at all times.
  • Perform arterial blood gas draws, interpret the results accurately, and adjust care plans in collaboration with the medical team.
  • Evaluate patients using the Glasgow Coma Scale and other standard assessment tools, documenting findings and escalating concerns promptly.
  • Ensure all medical devices and supplies are cleaned, sterilized, and properly stored after use, maintaining readiness for emergency situations.
  • Communicate effectively with physicians, fellow nurses, and multidisciplinary team members to coordinate care plans and respond to changing patient conditions.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Diploma in Nursing from a recognized institution, with a higher diploma in Critical Care Nursing required.
  • Current registration with the nursing council and a valid active license to practice.
  • A minimum of two years of hands-on experience working in a busy intensive care unit.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support is considered a strong added advantage.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret ABG results, apply the Glasgow Coma Scale, and manage ventilated patients independently.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the capacity to document accurately and relay critical information clearly.
  • A self-driven, motivated approach to work, showing initiative in high-pressure situations and a commitment to continuous professional development.
