Role Overview
This position leads the entire general insurance broker channel, acting as the strategic bridge between the company and its network of intermediary partners. The day-to-day focus is on driving new business volumes, protecting profitability through disciplined credit and risk oversight, and building the kind of long-term partnerships that keep brokers actively recommending the company’s products. Reporting to the General Manager of Distribution, this role is central to hitting corporate revenue targets while maintaining a reputation for reliable, professional service to both brokers and their underlying clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute a sales strategy for the broker channel that balances aggressive new business acquisition with healthy loss and expense ratios.
- Lead weekly revenue meetings, translating corporate targets into concrete individual goals and holding the team to regular performance reviews.
- Own premium collection and debtor management across the broker book, enforcing the company’s credit policy without damaging relationship goodwill.
- Identify, recruit, and onboard new brokers, ensuring every intermediary passes regulatory and internal compliance checks before activation.
- Set monthly and annual sales targets for Business Development Officers, tracking their progress and reporting results directly to the GM Distribution.
- Maintain an active broker engagement calendar that includes daily client visits, tailored solution presentations, training sessions, and appreciation functions.
- Ensure all quotations are issued within agreed turnaround times, removing bottlenecks that could cause brokers to place business elsewhere.
- Collaborate with other lines of business within the group to surface cross-selling opportunities, and propose new product concepts or revisions to the technical committee.
- Manage a high-performing distribution team through coaching, mentoring, and structured development plans that keep motivation and output high.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A first degree in business, commerce, finance, or a related discipline.
- Active progress toward ACII (Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute) or an equivalent professional insurance qualification.
- At least five years of experience in the general insurance industry, specifically within business development, sales, or marketing roles.
- Formal training in business management, evidenced by a certificate, diploma, or practical leadership development programme.
- Demonstrated leadership ability with strong business acumen and the capacity to make sound decisions under pressure.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, plus confident presentation abilities for both internal stakeholders and external broker audiences.
- Strong command of standard computer applications, including spreadsheets, presentation tools, and customer relationship management software.
- Proven experience managing third-party distribution channels and a clear track record of meeting revenue targets in a competitive insurance market.
