Role Overview
This position is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day housekeeping operations of an educational institution in Rongai. You will coordinate a team of janitorial staff, inspect facilities for cleanliness, and ensure that all hygiene and safety standards are consistently met across classrooms, offices, corridors, and washrooms. Acting as the link between frontline cleaning staff and department leadership, you will also manage cleaning supplies, monitor equipment, and address any maintenance or sanitation issues that arise during daily operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and assign daily cleaning duties for janitorial staff, ensuring all campus areas are covered according to the duty roster.
- Carry out routine inspections of washrooms, classrooms, administrative offices, hallways, and other shared spaces to verify that cleaning standards are upheld.
- Monitor staff attendance, punctuality, uniform compliance, and professional conduct, addressing any deviations promptly and fairly.
- Provide practical guidance and on-the-job training to cleaning personnel, helping them improve their techniques and resolve workflow challenges.
- Oversee the correct use, dilution, handling, and storage of cleaning chemicals, disinfectants, and personal protective equipment.
- Track inventory levels for cleaning consumables and report shortages or equipment faults to the facilities lead in a timely manner.
- Maintain accurate records, including duty schedules, stock issue logs, inspection checklists, and attendance registers.
- Coordinate deep-cleaning sessions, post-event cleanups, and any special sanitation requests while ensuring all activities follow institutional health and safety protocols.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) or an equivalent academic qualification.
- A certificate or formal training in housekeeping, hospitality operations, cleaning technology, or facilities management is an added advantage.
- At least 2 years of proven supervisory experience in commercial cleaning, housekeeping, hospitality, or institutional facility operations.
- Hands-on experience assigning tasks, creating schedules, and leading teams of janitorial or housekeeping staff.
- Working knowledge of occupational health and safety standards, chemical safety guidelines, and general hygiene best practices.
- Strong attention to detail when assessing cleanliness and organizational tidiness.
- Good interpersonal and conflict-resolution skills to manage team dynamics and maintain a cooperative work environment.
- Ability to balance multiple responsibilities, including routine inspections, inventory control, and urgent cleaning requests.
