Job Description

Position Title: Cashier

Strategic Objective

We are seeking a highly responsible, meticulous Cashier to anchor our front-line transaction point and safeguard financial accuracy. Your primary mandate is to execute swift, precise point-of-sale collections while ensuring the absolute reconciliation of the cash drawer at the close of every business day. This position balances sharp data entry with professional client relations; you will guide customers through checkout workflows across cash, card, and mobile money systems while updating internal sales ledgers. The role calls for a trustworthy professional with sharp mathematical instinct who can comfortably maintain speed and composure during peak operational hours.

Scope of Responsibilities

Transaction Execution & Fiscal Safeguards

  • Accept and process customer payments with absolute precision across cash, credit cards, and mobile money portals.

  • Compute totals, apply valid promotional discounts, and dispense accurate change or refunds instantly.

  • Balance the physical cash drawer systematically against POS system logs, identifying and documenting any variances immediately.

  • Secure and monitor all physical cash, receipts, and monetary vouchers within designated safety systems to eliminate financial risk.

POS Operations & Analytical Logs

  • Operate the point-of-sale terminal infrastructure with speed and dexterity, ensuring rapid scanning and item entry.

  • Maintain clean, continuous logs of all daily sales data to feed into weekly and monthly administrative reports.

  • Troubleshoot fundamental POS system hiccups and escalate complex software or hardware bugs to the technical team.

Client Care & Commercial Value

  • Greet all arriving customers with a warm, professional posture, establishing a welcoming and efficient point of checkout.

  • Resolve basic buyer inquiries, manage returns according to company policy, and route complex grievances to floor managers.

  • Guide customers toward auxiliary store items, upcoming promotions, or loyalty programs to support daily business sales targets.

Administrative Audit & Counter Upkeep

  • Compile, verify, and present summarized daily financial transaction reports for end-of-shift managerial reviews.

  • Support the internal accounting branch during mid-month audits and broad monthly reconciliation tasks.

  • Maintain a pristine, organized, and fully supplied cashier desk, coordinating with store inventory teams to flag stock shortages.

  • Abide strictly by local retail laws and company privacy policies, treating sensitive business data with total confidentiality.

Qualifications & Prerequisites

Minimum Requirements

  • Education: Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or a related corporate discipline.

  • Experience: Proven history of successful performance as a retail cashier, front-office teller, or in a fast-paced transactional role.

  • Technical Savvy: Hands-on familiarity operating standard POS machinery, barcode scanners, card terminals, and basic accounting programs.

  • Numerical Agility: Sharp mathematical processing skills with a natural eye for spotting calculation mistakes and ledger variances.
