Job Description

Role Overview

Eni is hiring a Business Development Officer for Eni Natural Energies Kenya EPZ Ltd. in Nairobi, where the core of the job is turning market opportunity into contracted business. Day to day, this means sitting with clients to understand what they need, scanning the sector for openings competitors have missed, and bringing decision-makers from target organisations to the table. The person in this seat carries real weight: the company's growth targets and its ability to stand up a credible B2B function depend on how well this work is done.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the ongoing point of contact for assigned clients, checking in regularly to catch shifts in their requirements and adjusting what Eni delivers in response.
  • Meet with existing and prospective customers to diagnose their needs, then shape product and service proposals that address those needs precisely rather than generically.
  • Track market movements, competitor behaviour, and regional benchmarks through research, industry networking, and direct observation, converting what you learn into concrete growth proposals.
  • Screen and assess potential new business lines across the organisation, building the case for the ones worth pursuing.
  • Arrange and lead meetings with key decision-makers at target organisations, with the goal of forming partnerships that last beyond a single transaction.
  • Keep communication channels open and reliable with every external stakeholder, ensuring expectations, commitments, and timelines are understood on both sides.
  • Contribute to building a B2B function from the ground up — helping design the strategy, then driving its execution through the annual and strategic business plans.
  • Represent the organisation's values and commercial vision in everyday dealings, both with partners and across internal teams.

Requirements & Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Commerce, Marketing, or a closely related discipline.
  • A postgraduate qualification in a relevant field would strengthen an application.

Experience

  • Prior experience in business development, sales, or a comparable commercial role.
  • A demonstrable record of managing client relationships and producing measurable business growth.
  • Exposure to the energy, oil and gas, or a similar sector is highly desirable.

Competencies

  • Commercial judgement and a working sense of where value and risk sit in a deal.
  • Strategic thinking paired with the ability to analyse markets and interpret data.
  • Skill in managing client relationships over the long term.
  • Confidence in negotiation and in engaging a range of stakeholders.
  • Strong written and verbal communication.
  • Research and analytical capability.
  • Comfort working across functions and teams.
  • Self-motivation, proactivity, and the willingness to take initiative and lead.
