Job Description
Role Overview
Working as part of a Group Life underwriting unit, this role provides essential administrative and coordination support from the moment a new business enquiry arrives through to the point where a completed scheme file is passed on for final underwriting review. The person in this position will receive quotation requests, produce price indications, chase outstanding information, and complete compliance and documentation steps in line with the team’s standards. Accuracy and timeliness matter here because the work keeps the new business pipeline moving and gives the Underwriting Manager the reliable files needed to make sound risk decisions.
Key Responsibilities
- Check incoming Group Life quotation requests for completeness, confirming that the required member details, benefit specifications and supporting evidence have been supplied before pricing work begins.
- Prepare and verify quotations using approved rate tables, pricing tools and underwriting rules, staying within turnaround targets and applicable authority limits.
- Complete validation checks on calculations, commissions, taxes and other charges so that only accurate quotations are issued to intermediaries or clients.
- Identify complex cases, non-standard benefits and pricing exceptions and refer them to the relevant underwriter or manager with sufficient context.
- Maintain tracking logs for quotations, revisions and outcomes, and use these records to support reporting on pipeline activity, production and conversion rates.
- Carry out KYC, anti-money laundering and sanctions screening on onboarding material, and escalate incomplete documentation or adverse findings before a scheme can progress.
- Compile scheme folders in SharePoint, upload required documentation using the team’s naming and filing conventions, and follow up on missing onboarding items.
- Prepare structured onboarding packs and hand files over to the Underwriting Manager for allocation, while also supporting automation, process improvement and confidentiality controls.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A degree in actuarial science, BCom insurance, statistics or another business-related field, plus active progress towards a Diploma in Insurance qualification.
- At least four years’ experience in Group Life underwriting, group risk support or a closely related underwriting function.
- Practical knowledge of group underwriting principles, including how member profiles, benefits and exposures affect quotation outcomes.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to review data sets, identify gaps and detect discrepancies in quotes, schedules and supporting documents.
- High attention to detail, particularly when handling financial calculations, policy documentation and compliance records.
- Comfort working with technology and a genuine interest in emerging tools such as artificial intelligence and machine learning as they apply to underwriting and onboarding workflows.
- Communication and organisational skills sufficient to manage multiple quotations, follow up on pending requirements and work well with brokers, clients and internal stakeholders.
