Job Description

Role Overview

As a Biomedical Engineer on our hospital team, you will be the technical backbone that keeps diagnostic, therapeutic, and monitoring equipment running safely and reliably. Your daily work involves inspecting, maintaining, and repairing a wide range of medical devices, while acting as the bridge between clinical staff and external service providers. By ensuring equipment is always in optimal condition, you directly support accurate diagnoses and effective patient care across all departments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct scheduled preventive maintenance and performance verification on medical equipment, including ventilators, defibrillators, infusion pumps, monitors, and imaging devices, following manufacturer specifications and hospital protocols.
  • Diagnose and resolve equipment malfunctions on-site, performing component-level repairs or coordinating with external service technicians when advanced intervention is required.
  • Manage vendor relationships, including negotiating service contracts, scheduling repairs, tracking response times, and evaluating vendor performance to ensure cost-effective and timely support.
  • Perform incoming inspections and commissioning for new equipment, ensuring full functionality, proper installation, and compliance with safety standards before clinical use.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance logs, service histories, and inventory records for all medical devices, using computerized maintenance management systems as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with clinical and nursing staff to provide training on safe equipment operation, basic troubleshooting, and proper handling to reduce user-related errors.
  • Monitor regulatory compliance and safety requirements, ensuring all equipment meets local health authority standards and internal quality guidelines.
  • Support technology planning by identifying aging or high-failure equipment and recommending replacement or upgrade priorities to hospital administration.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Biomedical Engineering, clinical engineering, or a directly related field.
  • Minimum of 3–4 years of hands-on experience in a hospital or healthcare environment, with direct responsibility for medical equipment maintenance.
  • Proven vendor management skills, including the ability to evaluate service contracts, coordinate external technicians, and hold suppliers accountable for quality and turnaround.
  • Strong troubleshooting aptitude with experience in both hardware repairs and software/firmware configuration for medical devices.
  • Working knowledge of patient safety standards, infection control practices, and medical device regulatory frameworks.
  • Familiarity with a broad range of biomedical equipment found in wards, ICUs, emergency rooms, and operating theaters.
  • Excellent documentation skills and attention to detail, with comfort using maintenance tracking systems and service reports.
  • Effective communication skills to interact confidently with clinicians, administrators, and external vendors.
