Role Overview
This is a field-facing engineering post that puts you at the wellsite, where the drilling fluid system is yours to monitor, test, and tune as conditions change. You translate lab-style measurements taken at the rig into practical treatment decisions, then work shoulder-to-shoulder with the drilling crew and customer representatives to keep the hole stable, the bit cool, and the operation moving. The work matters because fluid performance drives drilling efficiency, wellbore integrity, and the total cost of every metre drilled.
Key Responsibilities
- Collect and analyse wellsite fluid samples, running standard checks such as density, rheology, filtration, pH, and solids content, and interpret the results against the programme.
- Recommend and oversee chemical treatments that restore or adjust fluid properties as downhole conditions evolve.
- Supervise the mixing, shearing, and pumping of fluids, verifying volumes, additive rates, and equipment performance on location.
- Prepare written technical summaries and verbal briefings that give the drilling team clear, actionable fluid-management guidance.
- Track product consumption and fluid-related spend on the well, keeping usage efficient and flagging variances before they escalate.
- Support business development activity at the field and field-office level, including accompanying sales colleagues on customer visits when required.
- Coach, direct, and review the work of less experienced engineers assigned to the location.
- Carry out every task in line with company HSE rules, legal and compliance obligations, and the organisation's stated core values, reporting hazards or incidents promptly.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics.
- A minimum of five years' hands-on experience with drilling fluids products and services, including a solid grasp of how they behave in real well conditions.
- Demonstrated ability to match the right product and service to the situation, from straightforward applications through to technically demanding wells.
- Comfort operating within a global, matrix-structured organisation where reporting lines and stakeholders cross borders.
- Strong spoken and written communication, with the confidence to present technical findings to customers and internal teams.
- Well-developed organisational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities, including sound judgement under time pressure at the rig.
- Willingness and availability to travel, potentially to rig sites, customer facilities, meetings, and training events.
