Job Description

Application Administrator

Purpose

The Application Administrator is responsible for ensuring the availability, reliability, security, and optimal performance of corporate systems and applications. This is achieved through daily monitoring, maintenance, user administration, backup processes, and configuration optimization. The role actively resolves system problems within agreed service levels to minimize business disruptions.

Responsibilities

  • Implement, monitor, and maintain user access controls – including timely provisioning, modification, and deprovisioning of accounts – while conducting periodic access reviews and ensuring compliance with information security policies and audit requirements.
  • Ensure system and user availability exceeds agreed SLA levels.
  • Coordinate external software and hardware suppliers to ensure they meet their SLAs.
  • Provide trend analysis reports to IT management to support decision-making.
  • Ensure standardization and documentation of systems, support techniques, and adherence to defined IT service management processes to maintain availability and reliability.
  • Work closely with the Problem Manager to identify trends, business impact, and root causes, resolving problems within agreed SLA times.
  • Test, monitor, and support all interfaces to ensure IT service availability and reliability.
  • Collaborate with the Business Systems Implementation team to ensure optimal hardware sizing for applications, guaranteeing service availability and eliminating waste.
  • Coordinate with the IT Implementation team to address problems that may require further systems development within agreed SLA times.
  • Maintain sound backup and recovery policies and procedures, communicating regularly with technical and operational staff to ensure IT service continuity.
  • Maintain the database management system by installing all necessary patch upgrades to ensure system security and resilience.
  • Proactively review application and system performance metrics and alerts, performing event correlation and trend analysis on a regular basis.
  • Manage and monitor capacity, performance, availability, integrity, and security of databases using appropriate reporting and monitoring tools.
  • Embrace teamwork to provide cross-functional support as needed, consulting with technical experts or vendors to solve difficult problems.
  • Manage and coordinate system upgrades, modifications, and customizations with outside vendors, end-users, and IT resources.
  • Recommend and implement value-adding improvements, monitoring, and automation tools to increase productivity and lower costs.
  • Ensure timelines, standard operating procedures, and other documentation for new projects are maintained for smooth transition and post-implementation support.
  • Provide technical expertise and direct support for planning, coordinating, and implementing software projects, delivering them on time and within budget.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in IT or related field.
  • Oracle Database administration certifications.
  • Oracle SOA Suite Administration/Development certification or demonstrable hands-on experience.
  • Oracle Data Integrator (ODI) certification or practical experience in developing and supporting ETL/integration processes.
  • Oracle APEX (Application Express) development and administration skills.
  • Oracle Analytics Server (OAS) administration, configuration, and report/dashboard support experience.
  • Good understanding of Oracle Database administration concepts, SQL, and PL/SQL.
  • Microsoft Certified System Engineer.
  • Good Unix/Linux administration knowledge and skills.
  • Cloud administration certification, skills, and experience.
  • ITIL Foundation Certification.
  • Experience supporting Oracle Fusion Applications or Oracle E-Business Suite.
  • Basic hardware knowledge.
  • Three (3) years of experience in system administration in a similar environment.
