Role Overview
This position sits at the heart of how an Agile team actually operates day to day — coaching the people, shaping the rhythm of ceremonies, and clearing the path so work flows steadily toward outcomes stakeholders care about. Rather than owning delivery, the coach helps the team own it: building the trust, transparency, and self-management that let a group of professionals make and keep realistic commitments. The work matters because predictable, sustainable delivery across a scaled environment depends on teams that can see their own bottlenecks, learn from them, and improve without waiting for someone else to fix things.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as coach, mentor, facilitator, and servant leader to one or more Agile teams, guiding individuals and the group as a whole toward stronger Agile values, principles, and working practices.
- Build the conditions for healthy team dynamics — psychological safety, candid communication, shared accountability, and the confidence to self-organize rather than wait for direction.
- Design and facilitate the team's cadence events, including planning sessions, daily syncs, backlog refinement, reviews, retrospectives, and focused improvement workshops, adapting the format to what each team actually needs.
- Help teams make commitments grounded in real capacity, clear requirements, known dependencies, and identified delivery risks — and adjust openly when those factors shift.
- Track and share the metrics and observations that give stakeholders visibility into flow, quality, predictability, team maturity, and the value being delivered.
- Surface impediments, blockers, and systemic constraints quickly; remove what the team can remove, escalate what it cannot, and shield the team from disruptions that pull it off course.
- Coordinate dependency management across teams, keeping team objectives, product vision, and strategic themes aligned within the wider Agile Release Train.
- Partner closely with Product Owners, Release Train Engineers, Agile Product Managers, subject matter experts, business stakeholders, and technology partners to sustain transparency and alignment in a matrixed structure.
- Take part in ART-level alignment activities such as PI Planning, ART Sync, Coach Sync, System Demo, and Inspect & Adapt, alongside Scrum Master forums and internal Agile communities of practice.
- Drive evidence-based improvement by turning retrospective insights into agreed actions and following through until those actions are genuinely embedded in how the team works.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Certified Scrum Master (CSM), SAFe Scrum Master, SAFe Advanced Scrum Master, Professional Scrum Master, or a comparable Agile certification.
- At least four years of hands-on experience in a Scrum Master or Agile Team Coach capacity.
- Demonstrated track record facilitating team development and continuous improvement initiatives, not just running ceremonies.
- Strong working knowledge of Lean-Agile principles, Scrum practices, Kanban practices, and team-level Agile delivery.
- Practical experience with the Scaled Agile Framework and a clear understanding of how its principles and practices operate in a scaled setting.
- Excellent communication, facilitation, coaching, mentoring, and conflict resolution skills.
- Proven ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams spread across multiple locations and time zones.
- Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and organizational abilities, including the judgment to reprioritize as circumstances change and to support teams working against delivery deadlines.
- Comfort operating in a matrix structure and interacting directly with subject matter experts, Product Owners, Agile Product Managers, and other stakeholders.
- Familiarity with IT concepts, the software delivery lifecycle, delivery methodologies, architecture considerations, and technical standards.
Additional experience that strengthens a candidacy:
- Working knowledge of Jira, Confluence, Mural, or comparable collaboration and planning tools.
- Background supporting product, platform, operational, or service-based delivery teams.
- Experience facilitating organizational change and Agile transformation efforts.
- Prior involvement in software development lifecycle work, IT delivery, product delivery, or project management.
