Job Title: Actuarial Analyst
Job Purpose
The role holder is responsible for executing the day-to-day tasks and projects of the Actuarial unit. This includes performing data checks and analysis, conducting experience investigations, preparing business projections, and valuing technical liabilities for the assigned line of business (LOB).
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate with the assigned Segment in the preparation of valuation data.
- Ensure timely and accurate calculation of insurance technical liabilities for monthly financial reporting, including preparation of reports on valuation results.
- Provide input into product development for the assigned LOB.
- Contribute inputs for product pricing and setup in the actuarial pricing and valuation system.
- Carry out experience investigations as directed – for example, on expenses, lapse experience, intermediary investment performance, and similar areas.
- Prepare input data for the annual business planning exercise, strategy reviews, capital management and solvency purposes, as well as Stress and Scenario testing on projections.
- Coordinate with the assigned Segment to prepare data for management and board reports.
- Perform any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Knowledge, Experience, and Qualifications
- University degree in Actuarial Science or another highly numerate subject area.
- Good progress in examinations from the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries or any equally recognized professional actuarial body (attempted and passed at least 2 actuarial exams).
- 0–2 years of experience in a similar position.
Technical / Functional Core Competencies
- Proficient knowledge of statistical techniques.
- Strong understanding of the insurance industry in Kenya.
- Knowledge of reinsurance arrangements and structures.
- Proficiency in statistical packages or programming languages (e.g., SAS, Visual Basic).
- Familiarity with database management systems.
