Role Overview
The Accountant holds day-to-day ownership of the organisation's financial records, keeping ledgers accurate, reconciling accounts, and turning raw transaction data into reports that management can actually rely on when making decisions. This is a hands-on position where the work moves in step with the monthly reporting calendar, tax obligations, and audit cycles, so consistency and timeliness matter as much as technical accuracy. Because the figures produced in this role underpin budgeting, statutory filings, and external scrutiny, the person in the seat is a key control point for the organisation's financial integrity.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain the general ledger and record daily financial transactions, ensuring entries are accurate, complete, and supported by proper documentation.
- Prepare month-end and year-end closings, including journal entries, accruals, and adjustments, within agreed reporting deadlines.
- Perform bank, cash, and balance sheet reconciliations and investigate and resolve any discrepancies.
- Process accounts payable and accounts receivable, including invoice verification, payment runs, and follow-up on outstanding balances.
- Assist with payroll processing and the related statutory deductions, records, and reconciliation work.
- Prepare tax computations and returns and support compliance with all applicable filing deadlines and regulatory requirements.
- Produce periodic financial reports, statements, and variance analyses for management review.
- Support internal and external audits by preparing schedules, supplying supporting evidence, and responding to audit queries.
Requirements & Qualifications
- CPA qualification is required for this position.
- A degree or equivalent academic background in accounting, finance, or a closely related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience in a comparable accounting role, with exposure to the full accounting cycle from transaction entry through to reporting.
- Working knowledge of accounting standards and of statutory tax and reporting obligations applicable to the organisation.
- Proficiency with accounting software and strong spreadsheet skills for reconciliations, analysis, and reporting.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail, with the ability to spot and correct inconsistencies in financial data.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage recurring deadlines without close supervision.
- Sound judgement in handling confidential financial information and a professional, ethical approach to the role.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills for liaising with colleagues, auditors, and external parties.
