Job Description

Role Overview

You will join a busy Level 4 multi-specialty hospital in Laikipia County, providing hands-on nursing care across inpatient and outpatient settings. Your day-to-day work involves assessing patients, delivering prescribed treatments, assisting doctors during procedures, and supporting families through clear communication. This role matters because it directly upholds the hospital’s commitment to safe, efficient, professional and compassionate care for every patient who walks through its doors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform full nursing assessments, track vital signs, and identify early changes in a patient’s condition so that the medical team can respond quickly.
  • Administer medications, infusions, and other ordered treatments accurately, documenting each step and watching for adverse reactions.
  • Support doctors and clinical colleagues during examinations, minor procedures, and emergency interventions, preparing the necessary equipment and supplies.
  • Guide patients through preparation for tests, admissions, transfers, and discharges, ensuring they understand what to expect at each stage.
  • Keep precise, complete patient records and nursing notes, ensuring all documentation meets professional and legal standards.
  • Apply infection prevention and control protocols consistently, from hand hygiene to safe disposal of clinical waste, and help keep ward environments clean and orderly.
  • Educate patients and relatives on medication routines, home care, follow-up appointments, and healthy practices that support recovery.
  • Participate in ward rounds, shift handovers, and team meetings to ensure continuity of care, and respond to emergencies with immediate nursing measures.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Hold a Diploma or Degree in Nursing from a recognised institution.
  • Possess a valid registration and current practising licence from the Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK).
  • Have at least five years of clinical nursing experience to bring measurable confidence to this multi-specialty setting.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is an added advantage and demonstrates readiness to handle emergencies.
  • Demonstrate solid knowledge of nursing procedures, patient safety standards, and infection prevention measures.
  • Communicate clearly and empathetically with patients, relatives, and the wider healthcare team.
  • Remain composed under pressure and collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Show flexibility to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and public holidays, as the hospital provides round-the-clock care.
