Internship – Risk Management and Peacebuilding Section (RMPB)
Location: [To be specified] | Duration: Full-time, 35–40 hours per week (5 days per week) | Compensation: Unpaid
This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in communications, knowledge management, and project support within the UN’s Risk Management and Peacebuilding Section (RMPB). Under the direct supervision of a section staff member, the intern will contribute to daily operations, digital outreach, and event coordination while supporting the Partnership for Environment and Disaster Risk Reduction (PEDRR) secretariat.
Responsibilities
Day-to-Day Management and Operations (RMPB Section)
- Update and maintain all documentation related to RMPB project communication materials, ensuring they are properly filed in the consolidated electronic system on MS Teams.
- Monitor and maintain the section’s content management systems, social media follower database, and Flickr account.
- Support the implementation of the RMPB communication strategy, with a focus on social media and newsletter channels.
- Develop and distribute a weekly RMPB newsletter covering CPS and Eco-DRR issues, and respond to user inquiries.
- Assist in the daily upkeep of the section’s knowledge management platforms, including the Virtual Global Support Centre.
- Create content for RMPB social media channels (LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter).
- Contribute ideas to increase audience engagement across digital platforms.
- Support the further development and maintenance of the RMPB website, particularly the “About”, “Experts”, and “Case Studies” pages.
Programmatic and Policy Support
- Conduct background research for concept notes and programme documents to develop programmatic content for the section.
- Assist in the development of Climate Security Risk assessments and help manage project deliverables and policy support.
- Organize and execute events such as webinars and conference side events, including drafting agendas, invitations, preparatory documents, presentations, taking minutes, and following up on action points.
- Create communications products (e.g., presentations, flyers) as needed.
- Update RMPB/CSM websites as requested.
- Support monitoring, evaluation, data collection, and analysis – identify trends and provide insights through visualization of qualitative, quantitative, and geospatial (GIS) data to enable data-driven planning, decision-making, and reporting.
- Perform any other research and communication tasks as required.
- Support the secretariat and management of the Partnership for Environment and Disaster Risk Reduction (PEDRR).
Qualifications / Special Skills
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria:
- Be enrolled in a graduate programme (Master’s or PhD or equivalent); OR
- Be in the final year of a first university degree (Bachelor or equivalent); OR
- Have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD programme.
Field of study: Communications, environmental sciences, environmental policy, disaster management, climate change studies, informational graphics, graphic design, environment-related advocacy, or another closely related field.
No prior professional work experience is required, but the applicant’s field of study must be relevant to this internship. Please indicate which criterion you meet and attach proof to your application. An official certificate will be required at a later stage.
Additional preferred qualifications:
- Strong interest and familiarity with social media and online communication tools.
- Experience with web content management systems and graphic design (using Adobe Suite or Canva) is considered an asset.
