Position Title: Accountant

Direct Line Reporting: Finance Director

Industry Sector: Trading & Distribution

Gross Salary Structure: Kshs. 60,000 - 80,000

Location: Lavington

Role Overview

We are seeking a sharp, highly analytical Accountant to anchor our financial engineering and regulatory reporting framework. Your primary objective is to guarantee the ultimate precision, compliance, and integrity of our entire corporate ledger system within a fast-moving trading and distribution environment. This position bridges meticulous day-to-day transaction processing with high-level corporate governance; you will steer fiscal data from initial source bookkeeping and complex ERP updates through to monthly management accounts and comprehensive statutory filings. The role calls for a self-driven, process-disciplined professional who understands the architecture of commercial risk controls and can provide clear financial insights to assist executive decision-making.

Areas of Accountability

Corporate Accounting & Reporting Mechanics

  • Compile and structure accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual corporate financial statements.

  • Take absolute ownership of the general ledger, validating that every transaction is posted under correct cost centers.

  • Formulate clear management accounts and operational summaries to provide leadership with actionable performance metrics.

  • Assist in organizing annual corporate budgets, rolling cash flow projections, and liquidity forecasts.

Ledger Balance & Cash Management

  • Conduct rigorous daily, weekly, and monthly bank reconciliations to maintain optimal operational liquidity.

  • Verify payment requests, expense authorizations, and supporting receipts prior to executing corporate fund disbursements.

  • Supervise supplier invoice streams, orchestrate timely vendor payments, and systematically reconcile all outstanding accounts payable.

  • Monitor customer receivables pipelines, tracing aging balances and executing firm follow-ups on overdue balances.

  • Oversee localized petty cash disbursements, ensuring flawless accountability and record keeping.

Tax Compliance & Regulatory Frameworks

  • Prepare, audit, and file all mandatory statutory returns including VAT, PAYE, NSSF, SHIF, Housing Levy, and withholding taxes on time.

  • Enforce unyielding alignment with local tax codes, corporate financial regulations, and shifting fiscal legislations.

  • Serve as the central point of contact for external auditors, tax consultants, and regulatory authorities during review cycles.

ERP Systems, Internal Controls & Audits

  • Manage and secure financial data inputs within the primary corporate ERP software, protecting institutional data integrity.

  • Formulate and implement ironclad internal financial control protocols to block operational leakages and boost department efficiency.

  • Package comprehensive audit schedules, clear ledger trails, and balance sheets to support internal and external audit tracks.

Asset Protection & Inventory Oversight

  • Maintain an up-to-date fixed asset register, tracking physical asset movements and accurately calculating depreciation timelines.

  • Lead and verify periodic physical stock counts, comparing actual counts against ERP records to resolve inventory variations.

  • Support departmental managers with budget monitoring, expense controls, and routine financial inquiries.

Skills & Experience Required

Minimum Entry Criteria

  • Academic Foundation: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a matching corporate discipline from an accredited university.

  • Professional Certification: CPA Part II completed, CPA Finalist, or a matching internationally recognized accounting credential.

  • Proven Longevity: 3 to 7 years of progressive, hands-on commercial accounting experience, ideally operating within a trading, logistics, or distribution network.

  • Software Toolkit: Advanced proficiency in navigating modern ERP systems and accounting software, backed by elite mastery of Microsoft Excel.

Core Competencies

  • Analytical Interpretation: Strong ability to break down complex financial data, diagnose balance anomalies, and build structured fiscal blueprints.

  • Operational Accuracy: Exceptional attention to structural detail, maintaining a zero-error threshold while working under tight monthly closing schedules.

  • Ethical Drive: Absolute personal integrity, capable of working autonomously and maintaining strict data confidentiality in a high-trust position.

What We Offer

  • Core Operational Exposure: Take direct ownership of the financial backbone of a rapidly scaling trading and distribution enterprise.

  • Advanced Skill Acceleration: Refine your executive management reporting, complex tax mapping, and ERP system governance capabilities.

  • Strategic Positioning: Work closely with cross-functional managers and external audit experts in a process-driven corporate culture.
