Job Description

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Cash Handling & Transactions

  • Receive payments from customers accurately, whether cash, card, or mobile money.
  • Issue receipts, refunds, or change correctly and promptly.
  • Maintain a balanced cash drawer at all times, reconciling discrepancies immediately.
  • Safeguard all cash and financial instruments to prevent loss or theft.

Point of Sale (POS) Operations

  • Operate the POS system efficiently, including scanning items, applying discounts, and processing returns.
  • Troubleshoot basic POS issues and report technical problems to management.
  • Record and track all sales transactions for daily and monthly reporting.

Customer Service & Relations

  • Greet and interact with customers warmly and professionally.
  • Address inquiries, resolve complaints, and escalate issues when necessary.
  • Promote additional products or services where appropriate, contributing to sales targets.

Record Keeping & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records of all transactions.
  • Prepare daily cash reports and submit them to management.
  • Assist with monthly reconciliations and provide support during audits.

Store Operations Support

  • Ensure the cashier counter and surrounding area are clean, organized, and well-stocked with necessary materials.
  • Coordinate with inventory staff to track items and prevent stock discrepancies.
  • Assist with other operational tasks as needed to ensure smooth store functioning.

Compliance & Security

  • Adhere to company policies, financial procedures, and cash-handling regulations.
  • Report any suspicious activities or discrepancies immediately.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all financial and customer information.

Professional Development & Teamwork

  • Continuously improve knowledge of products, services, and systems.
  • Support colleagues during peak hours and contribute to a positive team environment.
  • Attend training sessions and meetings as required.

KEY REQUIREMENT SKILLS AND QUALIFICATION

  • Diploma or Degree in Business, Accounting, or a related field.
  • Proven experience as a cashier or in a similar role.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Strong numerical ability and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of POS systems and basic accounting principles.
  • Honest, reliable, and professional appearance.
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Integrity and trustworthiness in handling cash and sensitive information.
