Job Description
Job Purpose:
- The jobholder assists the cardiologist in diagnostic cardiac catheterizations, interventional procedures, and providing quality nursing and technical care in line with Cardiothoracic Centre policies and hospital regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform preoperative and postoperative assessments including vital signs, blood glucose monitoring, and administering physician-ordered medications.
- Conduct comprehensive patient assessments (physical, psychosocial, and spiritual) and prepare patients for procedures with compassion and clarity.
- Perform cardiac catheterizations, angiograms, and other cardiovascular imaging procedures.
- Operate and maintain fluoroscopy machines, digital imaging systems, and Catheterization Laboratory equipment; ensure solutions are kept at proper temperatures.
- Perform and document ongoing assessments, including observation, test results, and patient response to interventions.
- Manage patient care in the Catheterization Laboratory and support interventional radiology as required.
- Ensure patient safety throughout procedures by monitoring vitals and administering medications as directed.
- Collaborate in multidisciplinary care planning and contribute to optimal patient outcomes.
- Participate in quality assurance and improvement, radiation safety, and infection control initiatives.
- Coordinate and document discharge planning and referrals to ensure continuity of care.
- Provide patient, family, and community education and counseling for improved health outcomes.
- Stay current with advancements in cardiac imaging and maintain compliance with legal and professional standards.
- Identify research opportunities, develop plans, and conduct operational-level surveys.
- Perform any other duties as may be assigned.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Diploma in Imaging Sciences or related field from a recognized institution.
- Certification in Catheterization Laboratory procedures or equivalent qualification.
- Valid registration with the Kenya Nuclear Regulatory Authority (KNRA).
- Minimum of 4 years’ experience in cardiovascular imaging and cardiac catheterization, preferably in a Catheterization Laboratory setting.
- Strong technical skills in operating Catheterization Laboratory equipment and imaging systems.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, work under pressure, and maintain confidentiality.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Strong ethical standards, integrity, and passion for service aligned with Tenwek’s mission and values.
