We are seeking a detail-oriented and reliable Accountant to join our client’s finance team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing financial records, preparing reports, reconciling accounts, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and statutory regulations. The ideal applicant should demonstrate strong analytical skills, accuracy, and the ability to handle sensitive financial information with integrity.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Record Keeping
Maintain accurate and up-to-date accounting records in compliance with company policies and procedures.
Post and reconcile journal entries, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger entries.
Prepare and update fixed asset registers.
Budgeting & Reporting
Assist in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
Support management in budget preparation, monitoring, and variance analysis.
Generate regular reports on income, expenses, cash flow, and profitability to guide decision-making.
Monitor departmental spending and provide cost-control recommendations.
Reconciliation & Audit Support
Perform bank, supplier, and customer account reconciliations.
Prepare schedules and documentation for both internal and external audits.
Ensure timely resolution of audit queries.
Tax & Compliance
Ensure timely preparation and submission of statutory returns (PAYE, VAT, NHIF, NSSF, Withholding Tax, etc.).
Stay updated with tax laws and ensure full compliance with regulatory requirements.
Liaise with tax authorities on compliance matters and resolve any arising issues.
Payroll & Expense Management
Collaborate with HR to process payroll accurately and on time.
Verify staff claims, allowances, and reimbursements while ensuring adherence to company policies.
Monitor and reconcile petty cash transactions.
Financial Systems & Controls
Maintain proper internal controls to safeguard company assets and prevent fraud.
Support automation and continuous improvement of accounting processes.
Implement and monitor financial policies, procedures, and guidelines.
Cash Flow & Treasury Management
Monitor daily cash balances and forecasts.
Support in managing banking relationships and ensuring proper cash utilization.
Prepare payment schedules and manage supplier payments.
Liaison & Support
Coordinate with external stakeholders, including auditors, tax authorities, and financial institutions.
Provide financial advice and support to departmental heads for effective resource management.
Assist procurement and operations teams with financial evaluations of suppliers and contracts.
Strategic Support
Contribute to financial planning and strategy discussions.
Analyze financial data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for business growth.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
CPA (K) or equivalent professional qualification is mandatory.
Minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar accounting role.
Strong knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and local tax regulations.
Proficiency in accounting software (QuickBooks, Sage, or ERP systems) and MS Excel.
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
High level of integrity and ability to handle confidential information.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
